the people in my area always say, "i think you should (insert their speech here)... or you will go to hell. God is willing to save you... (insert another speech here)" and my reply will always be the same, "no. i'm sorry to burst your bubble but not having a religion is my choice of life."
i'm not sure why i even entered this argument/conversation but i just had to say something.

We've got a Jehovah's Witness...office[?] around the corner from us, and I've been doorknocked three times personally. The first time I was almost dead with the flu and they pushed paper in my hand and physically ran away (which was a shame, because by the time my brain ticked over and I realised who they were I really wanted to quote Black Books at them). The second time they were extremely insistent, not merely giving a message at all. One guy practically had his foot in the door, and wouldn't leave when I told him that I was an atheist and unlikely to change, or that the rest of my house was Jewish (he used that as a platform to preach more). So I can see what you're saying Blitzen, but as in all religions not everyone is doing the right thing (I loved the piece of paper the first lot gave me, it had the Harlot of 21st Century Society riding the Nine Headed Tiger of Corruption and Sleeze or something along those lines...the cat was pink and I loled forever).

The third time they came round they asked me if I wanted to hear about my eternal life and I said I was happy with the sixty or so years I had left and closed the door on them. And then spent the rest of the day coming up with other responses if I'm ever asked that again. "Thanks anyway, but I regenerate" "Thanks anyway, but I'm a fixed point in time and space, so I already know about my eternal life" "Thanks anyway, but I'm coming back as a hologram" "Thanks anyway, but my friends promised me they'd resurrect me with some stuff they bought of ebay".

Don't kill the messenger. We only do it because the Bible tells us too. :p
If you don't want to be Christian, that's fine, doesn't bother me. :3
But still, we can't just eliminate your door. We don't know whos going to be at the door, and some people actually are wanting to study with us or want us there! We just don't know, so we have to knock at all of them.
(btw... we're not called "Jehova's" It's Jehovah's Witnesses because Jehovah is the name of the christian god. :3)

Scarf: See, I think it's wrong for a JW to shove it in there faces, but again, all of us aren't the same. xD
I wouldn't do that. The magazine thing you're talking about is just a prophecy in Revelations (it's symbolic, we don't believe a nine-headed leopard with a harlot on it is going to kill us all xD)

Yeah well I think the Bible is a great storybook and all, a little too gorey to be
a childrens goodnight story - but I definitely don't believe in it.
So when you tell me the Bible tells you to come knock on my door and bring me a
message, then out of my point of view you are bringing me a message from a fantasy book.

And let me tell you, that gets tedious real fast.

This is not what I want my day ruined with, kthx.

If I wanted you here, I'd look you up. But I don't do that, so I don't want you here either.

And yeah, what Scarf said - most of the door-to-door people actually act like complete... well,
jerks. Stick their feet in between the door etc. A friend of mine had one just opening the door -
which wasn't locked - walking into her home to look for people. That is a major offense toward privacy
right there.

Sorry but I really don't like this practice of yours. I find it rude and invasive.
Sure, some maybe aren't as pestering as others, but still.

I've only had them once, but there was someone who called saying Jesus had saved them.
im basically never on, so if you wanna with trade me or if you message me, be prepared to wait a while for a response. this account is first and foremost a personal archive for sentimentality's sake as it was a big part of my childhood.

Oh no, I knew it was a metaphor. The picture was very literal though, and made me laugh (the art wasn't bad! I just didn't know why the leopard was...pink...).

And I definitely get that not everyone is the same, because that's just logical. I do lean towards DiabolicReality's opinion though...I really don't like having religious discussions unless it's a discussion. Unlike most people, I'm always up for religious debate, but I don't like it being one-sided. A friend and I were in a church recently, admiring the fact that it was a circular building (my fault, I was visiting and we don't have churches like that here) and we got chased into a corner and monologued at for twenty minutes. The guy was even asking questions that I could've answered, but not giving me the chance. I'd love to sit down with Jehovah's Witnesses and have a dialogue about beliefs, but even when it comes to people just being instructed to 'deliver a message'...I'm pretty sure that monologue is what they're going for. It doesn't strike me as fair really.

Dah, my boyfriend just told me he had some of Jehova's Witnesses at his door asking if they could tell him a bit about God xD I think the sight of him with his Death Feast T-shirt and the sweet sound of Varg in the background might have disturbed them ^^
I dislike people who try to convince you to believe in something u.u

Sorry to invade this topic, but JWs don't try to convert you. :p
As being one, we don't come to your door demanding "READ BIBLEZ OR GO TO HELL D:<"
We pretty much just give you an option, and if you don't want it, we're happy we tried and we leave. xD
Most of us are like that, but if they're any different I think that's stupid.

Anyways, sorry to bother! -disappears-

Yeah, but you're not all the same, aren't you?
Like not all christians or jews or buddhists or hindus or blaaaah are trying to convert you, not all JW's are.
But some try it.It doesn't matter which religion [or non-religion, there are some very rude atheists, too], there will always be a group of people who can't accept different opinions.

I don't have a problem with religious people, if they are religious for themselves and don't fill my ears with stuff I don't want to know or already know about their beliefs.

The others already said what I would say now, so I just repeat that i didn't mean to offend JW's, just those who knock on people's doors again and again.

No, actually we're all supposed to. Unlike other christian religions, we're pretty much a unity to all our "brothers and sisters" (as we call them. :3)

Well, we try not to monologue, but I guess some people do. xD
Like most people I go door to door with will ask them questions and give them time to respond, but others will just say it really fast without giving them a chance, which I don't like. D:
