name: Itazura [Ita for short, meaning is "mischievous"]
shadows name: Shōjikina utsukushi-sa [Utsu-san for short, meaning is "honest beauty"]
gender: Male
personality: Ita is a trickster, as his name suggests. He loves to prank those around him, his name was once something aside from Itazura, his name was Kuro, however that name contrasted his bubbly and tricky personality and so he renamed himself with a name which he felt was more suited to himself. He has actually never injured a single person, and only tricks people who are better off than he is as he is actually very generous at heart, donating to the poor and the like, it's been a habit since he lived as a doll in the human world. However, Ita does not like opening his eyes, it reminds him of the past and therefore he'd rather keep them closed and have Utsu-san guide him.
art/story:
kaito smiled, his eyes bright as he raced from his small cottage in the rice paddies. he bounded out toward the trees, his eyes large and full of excitement, his arms were open wide like an aeroplane as he raced through rice plants. he spotted a familiar reddish shape moving through just ahead of him and squealed in glee, it was one of the young foxes he usually found in the caves deep within the woods. they were not the size of normal foxes, they were of waist-height on an adult when they were fully grown however kaito didn't see any problem with that, having never heard the myths and legends about kitsunes. kaito was a thirteen year old boy living on a farm in rural japan, and so he often saw the foxes running around in the rice paddies his family grew. despite this, he attended school in the city and cycled every morning from his little farm to his big city school. it was as he was following the large fox which wove in and out of the towering trees that he saw a little brown bamboo box with some peach coloured silk spilling from the side, ragged and torn at the edges. the box was as long as his forearm and he was immediately intrigued by his strange little discovery. moving to the side of the box, kaito reached out and pulled off the lid to discover and silver-haired doll grinning up at him with his bright green orbs which were his glass eyes. "wow! what a pretty doll!" kaito exclaimed, however his eyebrows furrowed as he noticed the condition of the doll. his porcelain white wooden skin was covered in jaw marks and his clothes were torn by the claws of animals and it caused kaito to be a little saddened by the sight. something glistened around the doll's neck, it was a tag. the label on the tag read "kuro", which kaito found odd. "he's too cheery-looking to have such a dull name!"he chirruped to himself before he came up with an idea. "oh! akihiko's birthday is coming up, he'd love this as a gift! i just need papa or sensei to repair him..." he sighed quietly and stood up, returning the doll to his box before he bounced toward his house once more, going to ask his father if he could fix the doll, his deep brown eyes large with excitement.
a few days later, kaito had managed to convince his father to repair the doll and he was now on his way to school, clutching the creature in his arms in that beautiful silken wrapping he had been in when he was inside of his box. the silk completely disguised the doll, being an opaque material which hid the beauty and made the unveiling of the gift a more surprising affair. by the time he had reached the courtyard and chained up his bike, kaito was puffing loudly. he moved in the main doors, spotting akihiko just a short distance away. his heart was pumping rapidly as he slid a note to his friend. 'come to the third sakura blossom tree from the pond to the left at 12:30pm.' the note read. kaito darted off after giving his friend the note, his heart calmed slowly as he pressed his back to the wall just around the corner. 12:30pm came rather quickly and kaito was still loyally clutching the doll, still perfectly unscathed under the silken wrapping encasing it. he sat beneath the tree, the little package on his lap and his eyes fixated on the fabric of his trousers. he lift his head when akihiko arrived and smiled rather sheepishly. akihiko sat beside kaito and blinked a few times as a doll was thrust into his arms along with a clumsily said "i have a crush on you" from kaito. the gesture was received well from akihiko, who smiled quietly and looked down at the silken wrapping before he lent over and sweetly pressed a kiss to kaito's cheek. flaring up red, kaito smiled back at akihiko and the two spent the rest of their day talking brightly and charismatically with each other.
as soon as akihiko got home, he opened the silk wrapping and his eyes lit up upon making contact with the beautiful doll inside. love was written throughout his expression as he clutched the doll close to his heart, seeming uncaring about the scratched-up state of those beautiful green eyes staring up at him. placing the doll on his shelf just before going to bed, akihiko beamed to himself, extremely delighted with his new gift. however, during that night, akihiko's mother prowled the house, picking up various objects of trash she found laying around. one of these was akihiko's new gift, kuro. she sneered down at the doll and mercilessly threw it into the bottom of the waste paper basket in her son's room before throwing various other items onto the ball-jointed doll, completely burying it. as the doll lay completely still, something approached it. this something took the shape of a girls' hairpin. the something moved over the objects within the waste paper basket and prodded the doll, allowing it to bloom into a conscious state. the doll sat up and looked around, pushing paper away from himself.
"ah! who are you?" kuro questioned the hairpin.
"my name is Shōjikina utsukushi-sa." the hairpin responded. "or you can call me utsu-san!"
"utsu-san..." he murmured thoughtfully. "what are you...?"
the next couple of hours was spent with utsu-san explaining her role as a shadow and what she could do for him before the two agreed to be bound by a contract and kuro was granted a conscious state completely. the doll stood himself up and climbed to his freedom and the two collected coins from around the floor and under the bed, then leaving through the window brightly and travelling down the paths in the night. they saw a few homeless people on their way around and donated money to them before they saw the little door which led them to where they are now, the dollhouse. where ita changed his name and begun to cause all the mischief he could ever dream of.
