A few apprentices sat in the shadows of the taller, stronger cats. The moonlight was held over them in huge blessing, as a truthful witness to everything. They chimed with pride and excitement, pelt prickled as the static of many warm bodies was in the air, the scent of company and four different types of lifestyles were bundled into one. One for Starclan. Shadows walked over the island, the time frozen and the darkness taking shape into figures of cats. One in the tree, one in the sky, one beside the stump, and one in the distance.

These cats are not ordinary, they are in a friendship to the end, they are split by loyalties, but their hearts will meet forever in one place.

The tabby and white tom strode seriously towards his fun and cheery friends, but he realized a tiny bundle of ginger fur next to them. Suddenly, another rich brown tabby hissed. "Sedgepaw, got a grasshopper in your fur?" Slatepaw jeered and lumbered forwards with a huge smile from ear to ear. "No! Mallowpaw just won't shut up about if Windkit's gonna be a warrior or not," the tom spat and let his tail thump against the ground, but his green eyes were full of happiness and playfulness. Mallowpaw, an extremely pale grey tabby, smirked and gave the kit a small lick before heading to Slatepaw's side. Idiots arguing over a kit, Slatepaw thought amusingly and he looked over the kit. "Windkit, is it?" he mewed and gave a light grin. The little ginger she-cat rolled over onto the darker grey tabby's paws and smiled. "Slatepaw?" she mewed nervously as the other apprentices stared with eyes beaded as if they never head the kit speak before. Slatepaw chuckled and picked up the kit, although quite heavy, and set her to the opposite side of his friend, Mallowpaw. "Yeah, you're the one that's getting apprenticed today? Less work for us," he commented with a slight glint in his icy blue eyes.

chapter 1 - part 2 - slatepaw

"Right," Windkit chirped. "Atleast I'm getting my apprentice name!" Slatepaw moaned in annoyance and looked to his side. "Hey guys, do you mind if I go with Minnowpaw today?" the tabby asked slowly, but Sedgewhisker cut him off with a hiss. "Get over her, it's just a little different for today," Mallowpaw complained, trying not to talk too much about the she-cat. Slatepaw sunk back and looked at his bristling friend in cold blood. "Yeah, she's never-" the tom broke off and swatted at Windkit with his tail. "Hey, this is warrior stuff," Slatepaw mewed into her tiny, ginger ears, and the kit ran off to hide in a bush. Kits. Sedgepaw frowned and a wave of guilt crashed over Slatepaw, cringing to the fact he had almost ruined his friend's love life. The tabby seemed to have noticed and stalked away towards his mentor, Hawkflight, a brown and white cat with piercing amber eyes, which were appointed in the friends' direction. "Sorry," the grey tabby rasped, but Mallowpaw sat next to him with a tinge of annoyance.
