Mrf... WIP
Pound..! Pound, pound! Pound..! Pound, pound, pound, pound!Pounding... The relentless feeling of being pummeled by... by what?
It was his first conscious thought:
What is hitting me?The answer was immediate and terrifying.
Water!
With a rush the memories began whirling around him in a panic. The flood seemed to have taken back his body to play with it again in its fatal game. But this time, instead of tearing its way
into his lungs, the water seemed to be clawing its way out!
Tobi found himself coughing and spluttering, his claws scrabbling on course dirt and rocks and grass. He was still not fully conscious yet or else he would have realized that grass doesn't grow in water...
He continued his struggle for only a few moments before exhaustion forced his limbs to slow down. Tobi could hear voices now: a soft vixen's murmur and that of a young todd.
"m-mother..?" Tobi barely choked out.
The voices paused and in that pause Tobi remembered that his mother hadn't been carried miles away down the river. That couldn't be her. The only other being who had met his own terrible fate was...
"Kit!" Tobi rasped out as the word tore at his chest and his heart.
"A kit? What kit?" the female's words were momentarily understandable as Tobi's horror froze his thoughts for a few seconds.
The female gasped.
"Do you think he was saving his kit in that flood Todd?" she asked anxiously, "Oh dear..."
As her words trailed off, so did Tobi's thoughts.
Kit... was dead. There was no way for her to survive... There was no reason to be alive...
Tobi sank under the weight of his misery into the blackness brought on by despair and unconsciousness.
24 hours later...Slowly... The murmur of words penetrated Tobi's sleep...
He didn't know what they were saying yet, only that there was some reason why he must not wake up. It wasn't because of something silly, either, like if he woke he'd have to go on a scouting mission. No, this was because of something serious...
He remembered the last time he had felt this way... A shot of emotional agony ran through him at the memory of the morning after the burial of his father's and sister's bodies.
It was followed then by a roll of pain as he was forced to recall why he was so miserable: the flood, the separation. He wouldn't recall further though... not yet.
A light moan drifted up from what felt like every part of his body.
Tobi realized the voices had paused at the sound. Then they started up again, this time coming closer, where Tobi could hear them.
"Do you think he's awake, Todd? Do you?" It was the vixen's gentle murmur, laced with worry, "I think his breathing has gotten faster. I'm pretty sure he's awake. Should I get him some water, do you think? or food? He's got to be hungry. Do you...?"
Her chatter, though constant, held none of the loudness or sharpness that most foxes have who tend to talk a lot. Instead it held a gentle ebb and flow similar, to Tobi's mind at least, to the tide of the sea. Always it would flow back and forth and never stop but it was a soothing, rhythmic sound.
Nonetheless, the male fox, Todd, as the vixen had called him, interrupted the tide of her words with a gently chiding, slightly irritated yet kindly baritone.
"Salene..." he said in a would-be-calm voice, "I have told you many... Many times now, that he
needs rest."
"Yes," the vixen, Salene as Tobi supposed, replied, "but how
much rest? He's been resting quite sometime. Don't you think he should be waking up soon?
"And anyway," she continued before the todd could interrupted, "I was sure I heard something from him a moment ago."
As she was half scolding her brother, Tobi began attempting to open his eyes in order to see his distracting caretakers. It wasn't an easy task, though, since both sleep and river grim crusted the lids. For a second, the todd tried to raise his paw to brush off the uncomfortable stuff. Unfortunately, every inch of his legs was stiff from both the river's attack and a long lasting sleep. He had to make due with rapidly blinking his eyes and his vision did not fully clear for another few minutes.
However, he got a hazy view of the two foxes who were arguing about him.
[Insert image of hazy view of Salene & Todd here]
The vixen, Salene, was bending her head towards him, her ears quirked in a curious, concerned manner. Her eyes were slightly narrowed in her efforts to analyze the state of her patient. Behind her stood a todd, whose name was apparently Todd; he was also looking at Tobi, but he seemed less anxious than his companion, but gazed at Tobi with the look Tobi associated with the clan healer, checking on a patient.

-some sort of remembering sequence and probably regret about his sister, maybe a mourning period.
-Salene and Todd decide to travel with him, Salene is obviously getting fond of Tobi, but is just friendly at the moment, Todd seems to like Tobi, but is a little distant still.
-They head out, pretty positive atmosphere.
Picture? I donno... haven't decided yet. ^^'
