I nodded and held out my hands by the fire. "Does fire have a taste? Is that why you cook stuff over it? Or is just heat?" I could smell the wood but nothing else

Sam thought about that for a minute. "well i guess the heat makes the food have a taste. i know the wood burning makes it taste different too." he answered.

I nodded. "The wood smells nice when it burns." I thought for a moment. "Actually, I think I might've seen fire before. I was very little, but I once saw a ship near the island in a storm, and there were loud noises and flashes of fire coming from holes in the side of the ship...I don't know what that was all about." I shrugged

Kane started to take a closer look at the pelt he held in his hands until he hear someone sing. There was one part of his mind telling him to stay away, to continue walking forward, but he found himself walking towards where the song was coming from. His brother was telling him something as of why he didn't want him to go on a boat to fish or do anything for that matter. Just didn't bother to really listen to him.

"huh, it must have gotten struck by lightning." Sam replied.

Sapphire continued her singing, raising her voice a little bit more so that the song would have more affect. her voice was quite sweet sounding thanks to her being a siren and lots of times practicing by herself.

I shook my head. "That's the thing. It wasn't lightning. It was evenly spaced like they were throwing fire at us or something. Heavy metal balls came out with the fire and I think it was some sort of attack. My people of course attacked back, along with singing and many sailors jumped off the ship befor it even crashed."

The little nagging in Kane's head stopped when the singing got a little bit louder. It just occurred to him that whoever was the one singing, has a beautiful voice. He got to where the singing was at, and he didn't noticed that the singer had a tail.

"oh, then it was an attack." Sam replied quietly. "those things shooting fire are called cannons."

Sapphire gestured with her hands for him to come sit next to her and gave a beautiful smile as she continued singing.

I bit my lip absentmindedly. "Well I'm glad not all humans are like that." I said quietly. I took a deep breath. "My mom...um, she was killed by fishermen actually so when you first said you Had been on a fishing boat, I was kind of scared." I laughed nervously. "Good thing you're different."
