Delta Velorum Foxes are tall looking foxes that are only located on the remote planet of Delta Velorum.

Standing between 2 - 2 1/2 feet at the should, Delta Velorum Foxes are very tall in appearance compared to Red Foxes on Earth. They tend to be long legged in appearance and are well known for their endurance and agility. Males tend to be more muscular then females while female are more slender and elegant in appearance. A Delta Foxes fur tends to be very soft and short, and come in a wide variety of natural colors. It is not uncommon to see them in roans and dun colors similar to horses and are commonly seen in cat colors and patterns as well (such as calico, tabby, bengal markings ect). However the combination of colors and patterns are limitless, and each Delta Velorum Fox is different from the next. No two are ever the same in looks. Delta Velorum Foxes can come in any eye color and combination - no matter if it's natural or unnatural. A fox with two or more eye colors (known as Heterochromia) is uncommon but not unheard of.

╔══════════════════════╗
Name -- Up
Nicknames -- None
Gender -- Vixen
Birthdate -- March 12th
Zodiac -- Pisces
Age -- 22
╚══════════════════════╝

Personality;;
- Chipper | Alert | Patient | Easily distracted | Curious -

Although Up is almost always alert and listening for danger, she's distracted amazingly easy. It's a wonder how she was a scout when her clan was in one piece. With very high patience, she can sit as still as a stone for hours, the only interruption being quiet whimpers about being hungry or tired if she sits there for too long. Her sight, hearing, and vision are all very sharp, so it's difficult to sneak past her. Her hearing is her sharpest sense, which is quite helpful when hunting. Up loves seeking and trying to understand new things. She can spend long amounts of time wandering through an unexplored cave system or examining something as simple as a river smoothed stone. Her attitude overall is most likely to be on the positive side since she doesn't often focus on bad things when they happen. She'd much rather go about solving her problems (or at least hiding them) then sit around and mope. She doesn't complain about much, but when she does, she's sure to keep her voice down so that she doesn't trouble others with her problems. She's full of energy and doesn't often get tired. This makes it hard for her to form a sleep schedule, so she often catnaps when not on guard duty. Dependable and devoted, she's sure to keep her promises...unless she forgets. Up can be quite scatterbrained. To counteract this, she often talks to herself, reminding herself what she needs to do. Scouting and keeping watch is very important to her even though she isn't part of a clan anymore.

Quirks;;

--Up loves birds. They are often the reason
she gets distracted from her duties. She has
a tendency to follow them and quietly sneak
up on them once they've landed so that she
can see them better. Because she likes them
so much, she never eats birds as prey and is
a little shocked when others do.
--Despite her age, Up is very innocent. Death
has little meaning to her at this point.
--She's very slow to process things. Sudden
change is most likely to leave her dazed and
confused as to what's going on. Thankfully,
it doesn't take her too long to adapt and
resume her usual perky attitude.
--Up will memorize the sounds of other's foot-
steps, voices, and breathing so that she can
recognize them without actually having to see
them. Her hearing is good enough that she's
able to predict how many foxes are in a group
from quite a distance away and her number
will be very near exact.
--She has a habit of talking to herself in
whispers. It's easy to get bored when on a long
watch, so she'll have full fledged conversations
with herself. Most of the time, though, they're
not about anything remotely important.

;;Moving Day

Postby HannahBug » Mon Jun 01, 2015 6:05 pm

Image
The air seemed oddly still that day and a heavy layering of fog crept between the trunks of the trees. Up was quietly walking through the foxes’ remaining territory, the dew on the grass soaking her legs. There was no bird song or even squirrel chatter, which made things eerily quiet. Even with her strong sense of hearing, she could only pick up the sound of the branches overhead creaking slightly in the breeze and her own paw steps. Occasional patches of sun filtered through the overcast clouds, but it was never enough to warm to vixen’s pelt. The combination of the wind and the moisture made her shutter, as the early hours of the morning didn’t have much heat to offer. Because the sun hadn’t fully risen, the few flowers that were left in the sparse forest hadn’t opened, their heads drooping and laden with dew drops. Shadows from the stunted trees stretched far across the ground. Although they were faded because of the clouds overhead, Up walked around the images of their branches. They looked unwelcoming, like claws reaching out to grab her.

The war had left most of the nearby landscape looking worn and tattered, but she wasn’t sure why things seemed so foreboding today. Something seemed wrong, but she wasn’t sure what. In an attempt to force the thought into the back of her head, Up began to hum quietly to herself and focus more intently on her patrol. This went on until the sun had just climbed over the horizon. This was the time that she usually returned to the temporary camp where the remainder of her clan rested. With nothing new to report and no prey caught, she began to head back the way she came, empty-handed.

Even before she could see the camp, Up knew that there was an unusual amount of foxes up and about. It was abnormal for her to hear this many steps and scratches when she came back. Normally, there would only be the other morning scouts, a hunting party, and maybe a fox who hadn’t slept very well, but this sounded like very near the whole camp was tiredly shuffling around. When she wove through the last line of trees, she saw that her ears hadn’t been deceiving her.

Kits, children, and teens were being nudged around by adults, made to sit just outside the ring of the camp. The smaller of the young foxes kept up a constant stream of drowsy questions in between yawns, but most of them went unanswered. Whatever scrawny prey had been left in the camp was being eaten, which wasn’t much of a chore. A lot of the prey had been scared off by the fighting and what was left hardly had any meat on it, thanks to the land being slowly destroyed. And, what confused her the most, was the foxes were digging. Several of the adults were throwing piles of dirt around the camp and tearing up the nests of leaves and furs, spreading the mess all over the ground. It took her a while, but Up realized that they were trying to hide the proof that anyone had lived here. The enemy hadn’t yet found the location of the small, temporary camp. If the foxes didn’t want to be followed, all evidence needed to be erased. That meant that they were leaving. Today was moving day.

The rumors of moving day were almost surreal to Up. Ever since the war started when she was young, the adults and even kits had been passing around stories of moving to a new, heathier land, but it had never seemed true. What she was looking at now seemed like it was out of a fairy tale, a horrible, dark fairy tale. Somewhere, she had known that they couldn’t stay here forever, but this was her home. She didn’t want to leave. She could still remember when the valley was full of life and color. Up had hoped to be here to see it return, but, unless she wanted to become a loner, she had to go with the rest of her clan, even if it tore at her heartstrings.

Image

Time passed and the preparations to move were soon finished. Up padded silently towards the destroyed camp and sat down at the edge of it. Somewhat crestfallen, she watched the slower clan members trudge after the others, who had begun to walk away several minutes ago. She knew she would end up following them too, but for the moment she couldn’t bring herself to move. This camp hadn’t been the one she was raised in, but leaving it still felt like some form of treachery. She guessed it was partly because she didn’t want to leave the place where she had last seen her brother. Her parents had served in the war in the first camp and disappeared long before the move to the second. She and her brother had been moved here when they were still learning how to be skilled scouts. Later on, he had gone out on a patrol and never come back. Up had not seen her family die, so some part of her wouldn’t believe they were dead. It was just too complex of a topic for her to understand.

Up was jolted out of reminiscing by a shout from one of the foxes up ahead. Her time was up. Forcing down feeling of confusion and thoughts of rebellion, she rose to her paws. She gave the ruined, trampled ground one last long look before turning towards where the others had gone. Taking a deep breath, she put on a burst of speed and left the camp behind.

Up’s mood lifted only a couple days after the clan left the old camp. The thrill of having new places to hunt in and scout out demanded all of her attention. She was constantly running back and forth, annoying the other foxes, yet attracting them with stories of her finds. Days wore on and her energy did not die down. It was refreshing to not have to worry about enemy foxes slipping past borders or kits slowly starving. Out here, there was plenty of food and room to move. There was lush, green grass and healthy wildlife, too. Storm clouds stayed clear of the sky, causing the sun to shine down on the many foxes’ pelts.

The combination of stress and excitement kept Up awake for many a night. For a while, she was content to gaze up at the stars, a sight she had nearly forgotten, but eventually her interest for that died down. Because the others knew she was easily distracted out here, she had not been assigned to guard the group at night. So, much of her time that should have been spent on sleeping was used to whisper conversations and promises to the night guards, attempting to get them to let her pass. After a handful of successful attempts, the sleepless nights started to grate on her.

Although the scenery was brilliant, it hid many dangers that the foxes weren’t aware of. New predators chased off scouts and forced them from their temporary camps. The stress of moving lowered many a fox’s immune system, leaving them vulnerable to illness. Lack of shelter often left the group drenched in the rain or shivering in the cold of night. It was difficult to catch enough food for all, especially since they were unaware of any borders that were set in the unfamiliar lands. Over time, paws began to get weary and tempers began to flare. Soon, many foxes were waiting for the outburst that would tear the small clan apart.

Out of nowhere, things started to go horribly wrong. Foxes started to disappear one by one. Various accidents would leave them with one less friend every other day. A vixen could be there one day then hauled off by a lone leviathan the next. It seemed that nature was trying to tear the clan apart once and for all as if it didn’t belong anymore. Some attempts had been made to rescue the disappearing clan members, but they had all come back empty handed. Worried rumors began to spread about who would be next. The slightest problem would be reported as a serious cause for alarm. The dwindling clan grew skittish and protective, almost afraid to stop for the night.

Like many of the other foxes, Up was left baffled again. For the second time, her friends were vanishing as if they had never been there in the first place. The near constant worried mumbling of the remaining foxes made no sense to her and seemed to drone in her ears. She wanted to go look for the missing foxes, but she was required to stay. Many of the others had gone missing at this point, so the few scouts that were left were required to be on their guard at all times. The handful of them weren’t often able to rest and, although the other members were challenged with exhaustion and hunger, it was the scouts that would collapse in the middle of the day. Up saw no point to it. Although she was diligent towards her duties, all the warnings in the world couldn’t seem to keep the next fox from disappearing. The lack of sleep was dulling her and the other scouts’ senses anyway.

The wind hissed through the tall grass, causing it to lash at Up’s pelt. The sky was dark and black with clouds. Without any stars or moonlight, she was depending almost entirely on her hearing to pick of potential threats. Behind her, the small group slept, along with the other scouts. Most of them couldn’t hold their heads up anymore, so Up volunteered to watch by herself. She had the most energy, so it was only fair. Now, she regretted her decision. Although she loved to explore the unfamiliar valley during the day, the darkness made it eerie and unwelcoming. She couldn’t put names to many of the sounds she heard and the constantly moving grass made her think she saw creatures slinking towards her. Her eyes and ears were playing tricks on her, making her see things out of the corners of her eyes and hear strange growls and voices. Up was not easy to scare, but the combination of everything that had been happening recently very nearly had her shaking. She was constantly fighting with herself about whether or not to wake someone so she wouldn’t have to stand alone.

Just as she was moving her paw towards a sleeping fox, the sound of a bird chirping froze her. It didn’t seem right, though. Typically, only hawks flew over the fields seeking prey, but when the vixen looked up she saw a song bird. Before she had time to form any more questions in her mind, the small creature spread its wings and began to glide into the darkness. Suddenly, her clan slipped her mind. The sounds of breathing behind her seemed to fade out as she focused her ears of the bird’s wings disturbing the air. She wasn’t completely sure why, but Up leapt to her paws and raced through the tall grass after the little bird.

Up had no idea why chasing the bird seemed so important to her, but she knew she wasn’t going to stop. She was hardly paying any attention to where she was going. Often, her paw caught on a rock and she had to run faster to catch up again. She didn’t notice the aching muscles in her legs or the changing scenery. Her focus was only in once place.

It was only when the bird landed on a frail branch and started to sing a peaceful tune that Up drew to a stop. Gasping for air, she was suddenly aware of what she had done. She knew she needed to return to the clan, but…where were they? Skeletal trees creaked overhead in the slight breeze, their lush leaves almost completely blocking out the sky. The grass beneath her paws was now short and speckled with small bursts of flowers and creeping vines. It seemed so much safer than the field where the clan was camped. Still, she had to get back.

Up turned to find herself surrounded on all sides by the tall trees. Confused, she tried to remember where she had run, but all that she could recall was the bird gliding on the wind, its feathers a sharp contrast against the dark sky. The thick grass prevented her from making any paw-prints that would show a clear path back. The vixen sat where she was, looking around in confusion and listening to the calming sound of the bird. She had gotten herself lost…. And what may have been worse was she didn’t wake anyone to resume to watch.
