The birds are necessary, since they they're worth '12 commons each (together they're worth a '12 uncommon), so they're a fair trade for their '14 rare. Then the late '10 rare is fair for their recent store pet. they just have to add a late '12 rare, and it'll be a fair trade for your late '09 uncommon (since it's worth an '11 rare).
