I never thought I would live to see the day. Me. Peter Hayes. A Transfer Trainer. It was almost an oxymoron.
Three years ago, I thought I would either die at the hands of Erudite, or Tris and Four would kill me in my sleep. I still didn't put it past me.
So here I sat here, leaning on the smooth, cement Dauntless wall that felt so familiar, I wouldn't want it any other way. So with Four at my left and another Dauntless trainer at my right, we all sat in silence waiting for the new initiates to come screaming and flailing from the giant hole in the ceiling and to come bouncing on the rugged net. This was my first rodeo, so when I took a peek at Four, memories flashed through his glossy eyes and i knew, I was either going to love being a Dauntless or I was going to hate it. So turning my head back to the hole, I waited and was ready to help people off the net.

The grit in my hands and knees stung and burnt like I'd just received a sharp electric shock, but as I struggled up and walked over to the group of new Dauntless initiates the pain numbed slightly as the fear rose in my throat. Standing next to a pale skinned girl I'd made casual conversation with on the train I slowed my breathing to listen to the man in black just in front of us. "Well done on getting this far. I'm Eric, you will be seeing a lot of me. But now you need to forget everything else an decide how much you really want to be here" the man gestured towards the other side of a low brick wall. Standing on my tiptoes I peered over the edge, feeling ill at the sight below of pure abyss. "Who will be the first to jump?" the man broke the silence once again with a rough tone and glimmering smile.

A hand went up to my left, and a young boy walked forward standing up onto the wall, and then without another sound, he was gone. The east of the group shuffled uncomfortably as no scream of relief was heard at the bottom... But the thought that pushed me on was the fact that there had been no gross thud. "Who will be next?" the man called out, still sadistically smiling. I wasn't sure what got my feet moving, but I was up on that wall a few heartbeats later. I heard whispers behind me about how I was doing this so quickly... I assumed it was because of the erudite blue I was wearing. "Here it goes" I whispered to myself before falling, the wind whistled through my hair but moments later the breath was whacked out of me as I hit some kind of next. Bouncing around for a while I ended up just laying there before looking to my side at numerous unfamiliar faces.
