Ben held it, beautiful. He gently set it in front of her and glanced at his shoulder, bleeding heavily- "Yeah, I cut myself." He chuckled, grabbing the bandage from her and putting it on the bullet-hole, though it was weak due to the amount of liquid pouring out. "Let's head back to my cabin okay? I need to fix up, and I can get you something to eat if you want." I offered quietly with a smile.

His eyes widened with sudden horror, a hard lump forming in his throat as he swallowed hard. "...Hmm, at least I know you followed somewhat after your father, guess I did rub off, finally," he mustered up a smile, dry, as he leaned over the desk, now staring right into Ember's eyes with riveting intensity. The old man took his specticles in hands, folding them neatly and setting them down beside the various stacks of paper, blotted diagrams and bits of ink written over their pages. He made a small choking sound, obviously uncomfortable as he stifled a nod. "...Fine. You may take the only thing I have left of my wife, threaten my daughter without a due, see some diverge secrets of the industry, gather recipes of your own. Anything else you'd like to add, Ember? Anything else you'd like to rip away from me?"

Giving an excited squeal of delight Emily gave an excited little bounce and grabbed his hand "I like beef jerky,and salmon is always good!"she said happily as she pulled his hand leading him towards his cabin.Though she hadn't really been allowed out of the compound she had snuck away and played in the forest. "I bet you made daddy mad again huh?"she asked gleefully as she let go of his hand and ran up his cabin stairs waiting at the door "Last time a boy made daddy mad he punished them.He took them to a room and put them down for a nap!"she said turning and facing him "He said that they sleep so well they never wake up and they go to a beautiful place were they are happy.I want to make people happy like daddy does."She said her amber eyes sparkling.Her father clearly twisting the truth to make her believe he was a saint.

He sighed, closing his eyes for one, agonizing moment. "...I don't know, Ember. It felt terrible, horrifying. I felt like my whole world had just been turned at my feet, I felt like I had been stripped of anything I had ever loved- anything I could have loved. I tried to fix you, too. Gave you the best nurses I had, the best treatments possible, hoping, believing, I would never have the guilt of a shifter on my shoulders. Fail. Dead. Gone. I should have assigned that little Italian girl up rather than that nuisance who let the snake out...maybe things could have been different. Maybe you could still be here... No. You will always be a ghost of that little boy, Ember, just a ghost of what I had, what I lost," he murmured breathlessly, numbly shaking his head.

Setting it on the counter, he took off his shirt and tossed it, blood pouring down his chest. Grabbing the rag, he wiped it away and held the rag on his shoulder, "You see.. your father did this to me..." He closed his eyes turning around revealing the whipping slashes on his bag, scarred and bruised. "He did this to others as well- and no- they don't go to happy places.. he kills them- destroys and tortures them.. he does that to Ember." He sighed, "I'm sorry Emily... I love you, I hope you never turn out like your father. You're a sweet, young girl with very energetic happiness."
