"There is no way I am going down there," Bell proclaimed with her arms crossing over her chest. "You have got to be mad. What if there are snakes down there!"

Both Bell and Ealdwin stood at the mouth of a large opening. It was a cave that led to some unexplored world, or so Ealdwin had put it.

"Bell, dear, I think snakes should be the last thing to worry about down there," a wild grin began to spread across his face as he spoke. The very sound of adventure made him ever so giddy.

"I am not going down there. You can not make me," with a huff she turned away.

Shrugging lightly, Ealdwin tied a rope around his waist, knotting it tightly. "Suit yourself. But make yourself useful, will you. Hold onto this rope and lower me down."

As soon as he handed her the rope, he fell back. Bell's eyes went wide as she dug her heals into the ground. His weight dragged her closer, and closer to the mouth of the cave. Grunting, she pulled, trying her best to remain on the above world, and not stumble into the abyss. "You. Idiot." she growled as the rope slowly began to ease through her fingers.

"Whoo! This is so much fun!" But ten feet into the cave was Ealdwin, swinging merrily on the rope. "You're next dear!"

      "Yeah, how about a no."

      "Oh, darlin-"

"Stop that." Her eyes narrowed as she glared down at him. "Do you not forget that I am the one holding the rope. You merely are swinging there in the breeze. At the moment, dear friend, I play god. You should be thankful I haven't let you sorry butt be dropped into this cavern. Then where will we be? Hmm?"

Chuckling he shook his head. "Yes ma'am. Whatever you say. But can you do me a favor oh mighty god, lower me down a bit more. I see a ledge bellow me."

Rolling her eyes she slowly let the rope slip through her fingers. Several times, though, it went but a little too fast, causing a jolt through them both. Grunting and groaning, she managed to get him down to the ledge. "Ealdwin, we are running out of rope. I think it would be best if we got you back up here."

"Exactly how much rope do we have?"

Turning, she examined the small pile to her left. "About another five feet."

"That is enough. There is a ledge a little lower! If I can just get to it, then I can fully accomplish my goal!"

Frowning, Bell gave him a funny look. "What goal?"

"To be the first one to reach the half way point in this cave. I should chisel my name into the rock!"

Bell growled and yanked the rope up a bit. "Men," she whispered to herself before she began lowering him once again. About a quarter of the way to the next ledge, a creaking and snapping sound could be heard. Bell froze and listened. "Oh god."

Quickly she peeked over at the edge. But a few feet down was part of the rope, fraying away. A sharp rock must have cut it... drats.

"Umm... Ealdwin... we have a problem."

"I know. That attitude of yours needs fixing," he smirked.

"Oh shut up and listen you pig. The rope is beginning to fray. We need to get you out of there, now."

There was a pause. For the first time in the last forty minutes of them being there, Ealdwin was silent. "You have got to be kidding me,"

      "Absolutely not."

"Well, bugger," he began to sway again, which only made the rope fray more.

"Ealdwin, stop that. Okay, I am going to have to pull you up. Now don't you dare move, understand," she ordered before she began to slowly pull the oaf out of the cavern. She was steady and slow, hoping the rope would not break. She watched as the frayed part of the rope come closer, and closer to her. If she could just grasp it, then he would be safe.

It snapped. Right when it was in her reach, did it break.

"Ealdwin!" she cried out and rushed over to the edge of the cavern, trying to grasp the falling rope. "No!"

There was a loud thud that echoed across the cavern's rocky walls. Wincing, Bell began to panic. "Oh god, Ealdwin! Are you okay? Are you still alive? Oh god."

"No, I am not alive. This is why I am speaking to you now," his voice rang out.

"You son of a -" she stopped suddenly and threw her fists into the ground hard. "You made me believe you were dead. How dare you."

"Hey, it wasn't my fault! Now, help me out of here!"

Bell paused for a moment and considered over whether to let him out or not. After a few seconds, she stood up and shook her head. "No, I would rather not," a smirk played across her lips as she turned away and walked towards the horses. "You have a personal problem on your hand, and that is something I just don't deal with."

"Bell, get back here. Bell. Bell! BELEGETH!"

"You left me down there!" Ealdwin yelled as he rubbed his head. "I could have fallen to my death! Do you know how deep that cavern went?!"

Bell rolled her eyes as she finished chewing her piece of stale bread. "Obviously you are still alive so I see no problem. And no, I don't know how deep that went, but neither do you. So you need to be silent," she shoved the rest of the bread into the knapsack. "Now, what is the problem your head? Why are you rubbing it so?"

"A small rock was loose. When I went to grab it, it crumbled off and smacked me square in the temple," groaning he continued to rub the tender area. A welt had just began to form, as well as a bruise.

"I hope that hurt," Bell scoffed and turned away from him. "You deserve a good flogging."

"Why so mean to me? I have done nothing wrong."

      "You nearly died."

"I nearly died. Wow. And that is my fault how?"

"Because you suggested to go down there. I told you no, and you did it anyway. You nearly got yourself killed. What if I went back to Ernaldus with out you. Do you know how angry at me he would be! I don't think you realize this, but you are a very important person in this fight against Astra. So for you to up and die like that, then we would not stand a chance to beat her."

"I don't think you understand who god awful annoying you are," he growled.

With one last sigh, Bell turned away from him. She mounted her horse, the black stallion that her cousin gave her as a parting present. "Come on, we have a long ride a head of us," with that, she drove her heels into the flanks of her horse, causing him to jolt forward into a gallop.

For the next three hours, they rode hard back towards the camp. The entire way, Ealdwin refused to stop speaking. Whether it was to himself, or to Bell. He just didn't stop. My head hurts. I feel dizzy. Oh, my stomach. Are we there yet? How much longer? We half way there yet? Can we take a break? Can I have a drink of your water, I ran out. Why does she not listen to me?

He just constantly talked, which only made Bell even more agitated. "Stop moving that trap. You are killing me."

"Bell, I believe I have an issue with my head." he frowned as he raised his hand, rubbing the welt upon his temple.

"I could have told you that. Your stupidity runs rapid through that hollow head of yours. I can see it through those damn brown eyes of yours."

Ealdwin sat there, shocked by her words. "What a terrible thing to say," whimpering he looked away. "I was going to say that I believed I was concussed, but you obviously don't seem to care."

"You are faking. Now, shut up and let me think for a minute."

Bell slowed her horse to a tot. Her green orbs shooting across the landscapes of the unfamiliar land. Both of them have never been through the part of the realm. It was all new to them. There were barely any trees here, just bunches of swaying grass and weeds. The land was flat, easy for riding on. But there was no clear road.

"For Christ sake, where the hell are we?" she growled. "I can see on forever, and yet I can not find the damn tent!"

Gritting her teeth, she turned in her saddle, trying to find the tent. I swear it was around here, somewhere. It did not take us this long to arrive at the cave. Blinking, she glanced up at the darkening sky. It will be night soon. We need to get back before it gets too dark.

With one last breath, she kicked at her horses flanks once again, and sped forward. I hope we are going the right way. If Ealdwin is really concussed, then for the sake of his horse, we must get back to camp quick. I don't think the poor beast would like Ealdwin spilling his guts upon it.

It took another forty minutes before she could see the small light of a fire. Septimus, you are our savior. Smiling she turned her horse and headed over towards the fire. Finally they had reached the camp. Standing before the fire, was Septimus himself. His curly brown hair stood on in, as his beard pointed outward. A fresh scar sliced through his left brow, reaching for his eye.

"There you are. What the hell took you guys so long?" he frowned as he crossed his arms. "I have been standing here for ages awaiting your return. I was thinking a dragon had swept you two up."

Bell dismounted and shook her head. "Ealdwin found himself in a sticky situation and is concussed."

"Did he manage to find another Northern Elf and sleep with her? Did he not learn the last time he tried to get into the skirts of the last one?"

Chuckling Bell shook her head. "No, friend, no. He did not. But he did fall down a rather large hole and hit his head."

Nodding, Septimus moved over to the other horse that held Ealdwin. He laid there, his eyes closed and his mouth wide open. Septimus placed a hand upon his shoulder and watched as Ealdwin slowly sat up. "Wow, you look terrible... let's get you cleaned up and rested."
