Grim leaned his head down, licking at Scarlet's paw soothingly. "I wanted to talk to you." He sat down on the soft dry grass bedding. "I... I like you, more than I've ever liked anyone else. You were the first dog I ever bothered to get to know, and who ever bothered to stay long enough to get to know me..." He swallowed. He had seen battle, fires, gunshots and floods, but this was the hardest thing he had ever done.

[Canair]

"Go on," Scarlet insisted and nudged him with her good paw. Scarlet smiled at Grim, wagging her tail. She had never really had someone like her, not even her own parents!

Grim swallowed. He looked into her eyes, his eerie red ones locking onto them, filled with an odd emotion, one that was foreign to him. "I... I wish to ask you... to be my mate." He swallowed again, and turned his head, expecting to be snapped at, or even for her to leave.

[Canair]

Scarlet stood up, putting a paw forward. She nuzzled him softly, "I would be honored." Scarlet smiled, sitting by him and resting her head on his shoulder, looking up at him with a smile.

Grim looked up with a look of glee, and licked her cheek tenderly. He stood, circling around Scarlet and laying with his tail wrapped around her. "Thank you..."

[Canair]

"Why the thanks?" She asked, frowning. Scarlet yawned, curling up and resting her head on Grim´s tail and closing her eyes to rest.

"I was half expecting you to run off, or even attack." Grim almost laughed at himself. He was more afraid of her leaving than he was even of death.

[Canair]

"Oh," Scarlet chuckled and licked his leg. She rolled over, her head on his paws. She kicked her kegs, trying to get ride of a fly before giggling.

Grim laughed at her, licking between her eyes. He was happy. He felt the glow again, the feeling of bliss that so often came and went in his life, sometimes with a solid year in between. But this time, he had a feeling it would stay.

Scarlet smiled and whispered quietly, "I love you Grim..." She closed her eyes, yawning and falling asleep, her tail flicking around before just going limp.
