Why is this cat concerned?
Caolán awoke as he usually did; to the drone of the city. Metal monsters, cold and heartless, began to whirr around the streets. Caolán had heard a rumour that these beasts served as a mode of transport for the humans, but he didn't really believe it. For him, the metal monsters were yet another danger to avoid, another enemy desperate to end his life. Caolán's primary emotions were fear and worry, emotions which had come to control him, to overtake his sanity until his mind seemed to be driven solely by raw instincts. Caolán seldom got a break, a time to rest with slightly less fear, but when he did he trembled and moaned at what he had become. He was not inclined to believe himself a monster, but his very mind seemed to be crumbling away. Caolán feared himself more than anything, a worry which had etched itself upon his face far too many times. A pang of hunger stabbed through Caolán's stomach, the pain waking his instincts from their temporary dormance. He had given up trying to fight them long ago, and allowed himself to loose himself completely to the instincts which he felt should have been at his control, not the other way around.
Caolán's instincts drove him on a mad dash through the city, recklessly searching for food. By the time he arrived at the overflowing rubbish bin of a dingy takeaway, he had used up all his nine lives and more. The cat's gamble had paid off, nonetheless, and he tore into the food which had so disgusted the humans. Caolán was not a fussy eater; no cat with too little to eat ever truely was. He gored himself on the rubbish, nearing the rubbish bin with every step. His stomach still growled, and the rubbish bin and its tempting odours beckoned invitingly. Caolán didn't hesitate to follow his instincts. The silver-white cat took a flying leap and landed on the tip of the rubbish bin. The bin shook and began to lean to one side, as a result of the lack of balance of weight. Caolán hung on for near life, a yowl escaping his lips and fell into the deep recesses of the bin.
