New eggs are not nessicarily supposed to be rare.
They just get picked up a lot because they are shiny and well new. Hence they go quickly. Once people start reaching their scroll goals they stop grabbing them so they sit in the cave longer.
Gemshards are tricky for 2 reasons: 1) Different Colours make them difficult to plan for the scroll goal and people will want their goal for every colour, 2) the Jungle just always moves kinda slow so less are seen there.
