I second the recommendation for Karneval [ the manga ]! The anime version is really entertaining, but there's just too much plot to cover and too few episodes to do so, which makes it seem unfinished at the end.
Anyway, here's some other anime recommendations ::
Kekkai Sensen is new this season, so there's only three episodes out, but it's superb in terms of action scenes, animation, and overall music. Superhumans must find a way to protect New York from corruption as the city tries to live harmoniously with creatures from the Alterworld. I think the character designs and concepts are especially unique in this series ^^ It starts out kind of confusing, but things are explained in later episodes.
Akatsuki no Yona has some historical vibes, but it's a well-done fantasy story with a strong female lead and a good balance of comedy and action. It looks a lot like a reverse harem but is far from that, so don't worry if the cover seems a little bit concerning. After a certain turn of events, the princess Yona is charged with finding several dragons who will aid her in her hopes to restore the kingdom to peace. Yona undergoes quite a bit of character development in this story.
Ao no Exorcist might be a series you've watched before. It's got that typical 'gotta take revenge and kill all the monsters' plotline, which in this case applies to demons. However, it's far from terribly serious or dark and I'd say it's actually got a surprising amount of comedy, and a good helping of action scenes. The character designs are unique; the plot is a little less stellar because it's kind of predictable, but as far as action goes it's entertaining.
Noragami has also been quite popular as of late, I believe, and even though it seems to take place in a typical and realistic setting, there's a lot of things to do with spirits and gods. The action is great, the art is gorgeous, there's a lot of comedy to balance out the fighting...this is probably my favorite anime of this type because the characters' personalities are enjoyable.
Shinsekai Yori is my personal favorite anime series, but it's definitely not something that's for everyone because it looks innocent, but it’s extremely dark and psychological, and gives you a lot to think about. The series questions morals, humans, and society in a way that is subtle at first but then becomes more and more shocking as the series goes on. I mean, I had several existential crises because of this show ;_; However, you have to put a lot of thought into this show and do some puzzling out on the side because not everything is made clear until you think about it for yourself.
