Okay, so I have a bit of a question for those of you more knowledgeable than I am about breedings: if I ask for the base of one parent, does that request automatically include mane colour as well? Like, say the sire is solid black, and the dam is flaxen chestnut. If I ask for the dam's base, will that mean chestnut flaxen, or just chestnut base?

Genetically a black horse cannot be flaxen, Flaxen only works on a chestnut base. A different gene causes a white mane in Black and bays, the silver gene, which doesn't affect chestnut.

I think I may not have been very clear with this question - I know that black horses can't be flaxen, and chestnut horses can't be silver, it wasn't a genetics question ^^'

What I was wondering is, if one of the parents is a silver or a flaxen, do I have to specifically request it for it to be passed on? Or will the foal have it if I ask for the base of the parent who has it?

Ex: I'd like to breed WME1 and WME2 together - WME1 is a bay, and WME2 is a silver bay. If I ask for the base of WME2, will the foal come out silver bay? Or do I have to ask for WME2's base AND silver?

It was relevant. If the mane colour is not part of the base colour (ie. flaxen/silver) then you do have to request it as it is not part of the "default" for the base.

The same logic applies to paint markings.

I believe Hurricane is the one that was asking about where they could colour in their own equid on the lines, or if they could be added so they could make their own equid, and some people had explained to them that they were not allowed to colour in their own equid. I believe that is what they meant by people yelling at them.

Hurricane, you are certainly allowed to join the community and post with us even if you haven't won an equid yet, and you can head on over to the adopt page to try to win one or catch a breeding for yourself so you can have your own equid! None of us will ban you from posting cause you don't have an equid yet
