"Caine, you can't really agree that murdering someone is a simple way to end a problem, can you?" The therapist quirked one brushy brow.
I folded my fingers in my lap and glared at him, and idly watched how the sunlight glinted off the edge of his thick-rimmed glasses. I inwardly agreed that their presence made him look much smarter then he had proven to me he honestly was.
Casually, I folded one leg over the other. "Doc, you can't honestly agree that you can cure me of this... can you?"
My grin was challenging. He pursed his mouth and scribbled some hasty notes on his clipboard. I wondered how many file cabinets were dedicated to me in this claustrophobic room.
"Do you still have dreams about murdering animals, Caine?"
"No, Doc." I said dryly, scrunching my expression into scrutiny and leaning forward a few careful inches in my uncomfortable chair. "I have dreams about murdering you."

The social worker politely informed me that the good doctor had canceled the remainder of our appointments. I could see a tick in her cheek where she worked to keep a hold on her anger.
Back in the orphanage, I patiently returned to my favored area, a well-worn window seat adorned with only torn pillows patched with lazy work. My fingertips created a plethora of mental images across the plush of the seat and for a good while, I was wholly distracted with my artistic work that bore a gallery of paintings and sketches.
Watching the fabric bunch as my finger rippled across a born mountain range in the cushion and I finally glanced up, seeking the source of imperfection; and met the eyes of the small woman who sat on the edge. Immediately, I withdrew and my snarky grin bloomed on my handsome face.
"Hey thar, perdy lady. You just needed a break from all these ugly fellows?" I gestured to my roommates and she giggled in response; I blinked at the bell-like sound the laughter created and realized I had misjudged her age. She must be at least 21; three years older then me. I was two months away from escaping the hellhole of foster care.
Sticking out her hand, she beamed. "My name is Arjana." She introduced and I warily accepted her hand with my own.
"...Caine." I replied, studying her openly.
Laughing again, Arjana rose gracefully to her feet and folded her arms across her chest, but the stance was more modest then defensive. "It's a pleasure to formally meet you, Caine." She performed an old-fashioned curtsy and headed away, still sharing that secret smile.
I stood up curiously and frowned after her. "Where are you going?"
She glanced over her shoulder at me and smiled. "I've got an appointment to go to. Oh!" She abruptly stopped and pleasantly smoothed her skirt, brightening again. "I believe I forgot to remind you; you're returning to your normal schedule of doctor appointments tomorrow."
I frowned, irked. "How? I thought the Doc didn't want me anymore."
Walking away, Arjana laughed. "Unfortunately he didn't care much for a challenge. I, however," She grabbed that ever-familiar clipboard and held it to her chest with a classical smile, "Do."
