I just wanted to say..
you should never worry about what
your art looks like in the moment.
Focus on improving anatomy and enjoying
art because it's your hobby.
If you're never pleased with what you put
out, you won't notice any difference.
If you look at the very first thing you've
ever drawn, and then compare it to
the last thing you've drawn.. Have you seen
any kind of improvement? No?
Well what do you not like about it?
Maybe the muzzle shape isn't anatomically correct?
Then start focusing on improving one part at a time.
Get your head and muzzle shapes down..
then focus on body shapes and getting them accurate
then focus on your legs and paws, trying to make them accurate. Then focus on poses.
I'm not going to lie, art is hard, and especially animal art because of the different shapes and anatomy. .
just never give up, because when you finally come back to it again.. You'll be mad at yourself for all the time you could have spent improving. .when instead you're left with the talent you left with. Art takes practice. Heck, my art took almost 5 years to be worth anything. Trust me if I had old art. I'd show you first hand what practice and anatomy studies do to help your art. regardless.. never give up.
Also, if you haven't had commissions in awhile, don't use that as an excuse to stop. You should always keep drawing. Do personal art, sketches, anatomy studies.. but don't stop drawing. I know because I quit for two years and it destroyed my previous anatomy studies.. having to basically re-study everything because of it... but when you do it over and over, you will develop the muscle memory. Also going to suggest working on improving one thing with every piece.
I.e, the next thing you draw, you try to make the paws look great.
then the next piece you focus on getting the head shape/muzzle right. You have a little flexibility because you're going to end up creating your own style.. but focus on the anatomy before trying to invent a style. Never compare your art to others, you want to be recognizable as your self.. not the girl who tries to draw like everyone else. Just keep working towards loving to draw and improving.. and worry less about what every one else may think of your art. Everyone moves at their own pace and some take two weeks, others take three years, you just gotta stick with it.
Heck, I'd be willing to say I'm reasonably good, and even I only get 2-4 commissions a month. but my excuse is work and it takes me forever to complete one xD
anyways please don't give up <3
Also, one last thing. Cs has a wonderful art community. Don't be afraid to check out threads like the artist army and becoming more of a presence with other artists. A lot of people are willing to offer critiques or red lines or sources of improvement.. just don't let yourself be an outsider. Join us in the community and meet some great people. 8D
