Hiccup decided to ignore her statement about Skrills more or less. They didn't appear on the island very much and he was pretty happy about that. "That you practice so much gives us a reason to- Toothless and I don't plan to be beaten anytime soon." He smiled. "Though, in the end, it's really impressive how fast Stormfly is. Its amazing for such a large dragon." he added. Of course, he doubted they'd be able to out-fly Toothless soon, but it was worth practicing for. Hiccup was more competitive than he liked to admit.

Astrid smirked at his remark though it was true, Stormfly was faster than any of the Nadders on the island and even though she didn't like admitting it much her dragons offspring seemed to also be pretty quick as well but not nearly as fast as Stormfly was. Astrid worked her dragon hard most of the time when they had chances to work on their skills and all that hard work and endless nights of training had paid off. "Pff well you better watch your back then." She teased a smile showing on her face as she laughed once again. It was fun spending time with him and it also gave her a chance to practice all sorts of other things as well.

"If you say so." Hiccup replied teasingly, glancing over to Stormfly for a moment. Toothless was happy flying, and always loved to work, no matter how hard he was pushed. That was one thing he recognized in Stormfly as well. He looked forward again, noting the sky. It didn't seem like so much time had passed in the day, but it was already starting to get late, the shadows stretching out from the trees below. Soon, it would be dark. Hiccup spotted a ship or two at sea. Crops were starting to be planted. The village was starting to embrace that ti was getting warmer- slowly. In the air, though, it was still pretty cold.

Astrid noticed the ships off in the distance as well, but didn't say anything thinking that they were likely just fishing boats from the village as it was that time of year again where they didn't have to worry about ice and snow. She was however curious enough about why they seemed so far off the shore line but then again she didn't really pay much attention to that sort of stuff and soon turned her attention back to her friends. "Well at least I'm giving you a warning or two." She teased before moving the slightest bit for a moment, putting one of her legs underneath herself as she had Stormfly slow just the slightest bit. She then did the same with her other leg and slowly stood up on her dragons back bracing herself and managing to balance this time with a smirk showing on her face.

Hiccup twisted in the saddle enough to see what she was up to. "Oh, so it's stupid for me to test out my invention in a perfectly sae and controlled environment with help available, but not stupid of you to teach yourself to do that?" He questioned, though at the same time he was watching closely- if she fell, he wanted to make sure he could reach her quickly. He himself had considered the trick before but never gone through with it- between bad balance and a metal leg, it was next to impossible for him to be anywhere other than sitting. He had to be impressed by her balance.

"That's because I've been practicing this for ages. Just when you aren't around to judge me, and Stormfly wouldn't let me fall anyway. You just have to find the center of gravity and you're fine. However jumping off your dragons back is an entirely different thing." Astrid muttered under her breath though there was a smile showing on her face before she moved to sit back down on the saddle and pat her dragons neck again. "Good girl, Stormfly. I told you we'd get it eventually." She praised quietly as she turned her attention back to Hiccup. "So yeah, big difference." She wasn't about to tell him how she'd slipped a few times as she knew it was safer than jumping off a dragons back.

Hiccup rolled his eyes. "Yeah, big difference. Unless you slip- you'd better hope that Stormfly catches the weight change quickly if you do, because if she doesn't she'll never catch you." he retorted, though in the end he knew it was hardly worth the argument. She would do her risky tricks, and he'd do his. The difference was Hiccup's risky things normally involved lots of falling, which he was rather talented at. And his stubborn streak. That never resulted in anything good either.

Astrid gave him another small look before she rolled her eyes at his words and glanced out at the ocean once again at the boats as if it was bothering her somewhat with what she was trying to figure out with, she couldn't get a good enough look at them but one thing was for certain they weren't really hiding from view so it couldn't be much of a danger now could it? She turned to look back over at Hiccup once again before she shrugged simply. "Pff, yeah like Stormfly would act like Hookfang does. She's too smart to ever let that happen. You on the other hand, hmm jumping off a dragons back and trying out 'wings', not really a smart idea because they could have torn or something like that." She replied simply having Stormfly go through another few flips, turns and dives before steadying once again.

"What, are you suggesting that one of my inventions could not work?" Hiccup retorted incredulously, mostly just in a teasing manner. Something about the ships out at sea seemed odd to him- he didn't remember his dad approving fishing outings that day due to the winds. He must have changed his mind, Hiccup decided, though that didn't explain why there were only two ships out there. Normally there would be many more, and they'd be moving a lot faster- fishing boats knew that the more they cast their nets, the more they'd catch.

Astrid shrugged her shoulders simply at his question knowing that he was somewhat teasing her and at the same time likely not. "It's possible you know, anything could happen without you expecting it to happen or without any warning. Like having something taken away from you without realizing it until it's too late..." She trailed off with a quiet sigh before turning Stormfly over the forest again. She never really talked about her parents nor how she had felt, she'd been told to not shed any tears and as difficult as it was she had done so not wanting to seem like a coward or weak. She stroked Stormfly's back gently before leaning into the saddle more and glancing over at Hiccup and Toothless for a moment knowing well enough that he had lost his mother to a dragon as well, though she had lost both of her parents. "I don't want you to get hurt, that's all. Or am I not allowed to be concerned and care about you?" She asked, a slight cold edge to her voice as she spoke.
