What makes domestic animals any better?

I think that people like domesticated animals better because we can interact with them more closely, in general, and because we can relate to and understand them better. Most other animals see us as the enemy, while a dog or cat would react to us as a friend. Those are the reasons I prefer dogs/cats over other animals
As you can see from my first pot, I'm not saying they ARE better, I'm saying people LIKE them better.

But wolves are the ancestors of all dogs, so maybe that's why people like them so much.

Yeah, I guess. I mean, I'm not saying I think it's logical to like wolves more because they're the ancestors of dogs. That doesn't give them any kind of "specialness" that I have actually heard people claim wolves possess.
What I'm saying is, let's say, dogs are genuinely "special" and likable because, we, as humans, made them special and likable to us through years of domestication. Before someone takes this wrong, I am still not claiming that dogs are better than other animals. I'm saying that to a human they may be.
You do bring up a good point. The reason for what, I, for the lack of a better word, will refer to as the "wolf craze" (not aiming to offend anyone, I wasn't sure what to call it. Not calling anyone crazy, okay? I just meant they have a very devoted "following") may be due to the fact that people see an animal resembling dogs, which are far more reasonable to form and emotional attachment to. Animals so visually similar may invoke an unreasonable level of trust. We relate to our dogs, which makes us relate to the wolf. That makes a lot of sense.

From an artistic and creative standpoint, I view(personally my OWN opinion) dogs a bit better. there is more variety, there is more uniqueness to the dog than the wolf. Not saying what is an isn't, Im saying how I view.

can i just point out that not every one who likes wolves is simply hopping on the band wagon? i mean,i personaly love wolves not because of wolfs rain, a book or twilight, but because i do. i watch them on tv,study them in my nature books and hope to see one someday. so no, they dont ghave a following or a craze. they simpley are lucky enough to have people out their who recognise beauty and uniquness in an amimal. dogs and cats, goldfish and hamster - they are all the same. tbh i dont see how you can say wolves are less worthy of devotion then domestic pets. at least pets - as far as i know - face little threat from hunters and such. a man who huntes wolfs probably comes home to his afgan hound every night. as for popularity, wolves didnt ask for this. they have no clue of their fans, haters or other life. they simply live, survive, persevere. they don;t care about these people debating them, they dont even care about the people that would sacrafice their family to save them. they just...exist. i think thats why people see the spirit of all things wild in their eyes. dont ask me why it was the wolf, not the lynx, tapir, mouse, bilby or skunk.. because i dont know. all i know is wolfs dont deserve the hate they get simply bc of the people who choose to adore them.
Thank you.

But I only support it when the hunters are playing fair and they are hunting wolves in a well populated (or overpopulated) area, such as Canada, Alaska etc. I am against trapping and shooting wolves from helicopters though. This goes for foxes and coyotes as well.

Agreed, shooting from a helicopter doesn't sound as much fun in the first place.

But wolves are the ancestors of all dogs, so maybe that's why people like them so much.

not really, not to much anymore. The "dog" and the "wolf" separated before domestication, "dog" was becomeing their own animal before becoming the dog we knew, from evolution standpoint

Yeah but people still like to think of them as dogs with a "wild spirit" even though they are fairly separate now.
