Dear Diary,
We have officially entered tech week, which is terrifying. The set won't be completely done until Wednesday, and WE OPEN ON FRIDAY. FRIDAY. I'M FREAKING OUT. We have rehearsal every night until at least 8, some nights go until 9. I mean, I know it's not that late but we're at rehearsal more than we're at actual classes. Not to mention the mounds of homework my math teacher enjoys giving us. I know, I shouldn't have taken an advanced class but I love math and I thought I could handle it. Too bad I can't drop math. Even while I'm as actual classes, the only thing I talk about or think about is The Wizard of Oz. I make weird references to it and doodle the Tin Man on my math homework (no, that does not have anything to do with Eric being the Tin Man at all...) I was sitting alone at lunch (Louisa was at an extra band rehearsal and Eliza was studying for math) when Eric dropped into the seat beside me. I looked up. "Oh, hey Eric! I didn't know you ate at first lunch today!"
"Oh, I have study hall. The teacher said I could go to first lunch if I wanted to. I didn't want you to be all alone!"
I smiled. "So how's your brother doing?" Eric's brother was in boot camp in California.
"Miserable."
I grinned, despite myself. Eric's brother Mark had always been sort of rude and full of himself.
He grinned back. "It's fine, I know how you feel about him. He's been whining about it on the phone but he's the one who signed up for it." The bell rang and I was off to the dreaded math class.
The homework was piling up in that class, and Eric was especially good at distracting people. Even when I was at home, we would constantly be texting or else face timing.
Speaking of that, someone's face timing me right now. I picked up my phone and saw that it was Jason.
"Hey Pidge." he said, tugging on his curly hair.
"Hey!"
"So, how are rehearsals going?" I told him, and we talked for a few minutes. I could tell he wanted to tell me something, though. He kept tugging on his hair, and he seemed inpatient.
"So, um Pidge." he said finally. "I was wondering, do you wanna go somewhere with me after the matinee on Saturday?"
I almost dropped my phone. No, no, not Jason please not Jason. Jason had a habit of getting a crush on any girl who looked at him. I hadn't been the object of his affections yet, but I guess now was my time. "Like a date?" I asked stupidly.
"Yeah, if you wanna call it that."
I kept my face blank. "No thanks. I'm kind of busy. My... er, my aunt's coming that day." Oldest excuse in the book. I'm sure he saw through it, but I actually don't care.
"Oh. Oh, well I gotta go do my Chemistry work. See you later." He hung up.
Darn it. I'd almost prefer Xavier to this. I am not looking forward to seeing Jason at school.
