When the gym teacher announced that they would be starting their basketball unit, Clara's stomach dropped. Of course. Basketball. "...and can everyone find a partner to practice drills with?" called the teacher.
And here was Clara, thinking this day couldn't get worse.

She groaned and stared miserably at her practically useless hands. "This is horrible.." She muttered, standing up with the most 'I am done' face possible put on.

Clara stood up, giving the gym teacher her best death glare. To the right, she saw Finny, who didn't appear to be wearing gloves. Clara nervously tiptoed over to Finny. "Err, do you want to be partners or something? I'm terrible at basketball..."

She turned to Clara, glaring. "My hands are going to hurt so much, Clara. So much. But yes, I'll be your partner.'' She had begun to speak in a dead-eyed monotone, giving everyone the most hallowed face she could.

Clara smiled in spite of herself. "We can fake it. Honestly, Ms. ___ never notices anything that goes on in class." Clara grabbed a soft, half-deflated basketball. "This'll do. I'll throw lightly, you catch with your arms. Or you can throw. Whatever's easiest." Clara instinctively liked Finny; they were both very different, and Finny seemed like a bit of a loner too.

Finny's face burst into a grin. "Alright, that's true. I'll..catch. Somehow." Finny stepped down from the flight of bleachers that she had been standing on. "And besides, we've got stuff to talk about, anyway."

When it was announced that they were going to be playing basketball Jace sighed and bounced on the balls of his feet. He wasn't a big fan of the sport, but he was 'ok' with playing it. When the teacher called for partners, his eyes traveled the crowd, wondering who would want to join him. "Hey." came a somewhat recognizable voice. Jace pivoted to see a slightly shorter boy with fiery orange hair standing beside him with his arms crossed. Jae. "Be my partner beanstalk." he commanded the taller boy and Jace looked a little confused. "B-beanstalk?" he repeated, blinking his eyes. "C'mon." Jae said, tossing a ball right into Jace's hands.
