Seeing him jump, a small laugh escaped Lola's mouth. She gave an apologetic smile, looking a bit sheepish. "Sorry about that. It was somewhat of an odd entrance." She mused, giving a light shake of her head. The mermaid was ready to give her explanation for the entrance. "A soda? Oh! Thank you!" She responded, reaching forward to grab the bottle. She examined at bottle before figuring out how to open it. Once she did, she took a small sip of it. The carbonation of the soda burned her throat, and she silently panicked before it passed. She had never had a soda before, but she seemed to like it. She set the bottle back on the dock before reaching out to grab one of the lanterns. Curiously, she looked for instructions and found them on the back. She hummed in thought, eyes scanning the words. Eventually, she popped the lantern open and set it down. "These are so cool." She whispered, gazing the at unlit lantern.

Her comment had only set Thomas off. He frowned at the female, shaking his head. "No, you ran over to us. I had her under control so don't tell me that she ran up to you. She was standing right beside me." He responded with a hint of an edge to his tone, a small scowl forming on his lips. "She could've bitten you, you know."

"Wow, I'm soo scared." I threw as much sarcasm as I would into the statement. "If you're blind, then I'll explain what happened. And ill dumb it down for you. I come. I sit. Dog comes. You come. Get it? Ugh. It doesn't even matter." I hissed the words. Ii was not a people person

"Hmm...well they do it every year, it's pretty cool." Adira responded simply, looking back to the horizon. She wondered what time it was, though had no way of knowing. Traditionally, everyone set theirs off simultaneously at precisely nine. They had done it then so that the children could participate as well without saying up too late. "They'll probably set them off soon," she guessed.

"No problem," Jason replied as she thanked him, watching her struggle with the cap for just a moment before she was able to open it. Looking back to the plastic bag in his possession, he pulled it open and took out the flattened lantern. He simply stared at it for a moment, before looking up to see what Lola was doing to open it and followed suit. He had difficulty with it, but then it suddenly popped open. A small smile spread across his features as he set it on his lap. "I have a lighter if that's what we need," he said, pulling it out from his jacket pocket and set it on the dock between them. He glanced at his watch, checking for the time. They had a little more than five minutes before everyone else would be setting their lanterns off. "You sure you don't want to come up on the dock? You look cold..." he commented, his gaze returning to her. Although the water was probably warmer than the air, once out even halfway Jay assumed it would be chilly.

"Yeah, we should light these things. Could you light mine for me, please?" Lola asked, glancing over at the lighter before looking at Jason. She had no idea how to use a lighter, but she knew that fire came from it. For some reason, the idea of lighting something seemed to put her on edge. Naturally, water puts out fire, but she could not help but dislike it. At his comment, she gave a light shake of her head. "Well, I can't do that. I have to stay in the water." She responded, a small frown forming on her lips. She opened her mouth then closed it. The mermaid was unsure how to explain her situation to him, so she decided to let things unfold and slowly happen.

"I wasn't trying to scare you? I'm warning you that some dogs are not very friendly toward strangers." Thomas responded, stifling back a laugh at her attitude. Who did she think she was? Coming up to him, petting his dog, and getting mad when she was wrong? He did not have time for these people. "Like I said, my dog did not move a muscle until you approached us. Clearly, you're the blind one, miss. I don't have time for this crap, so I'm leaving. I'd rather you not speak to me if you're wanting to start an argument." He responded before turning away and guiding Carla further onto the dock. He held the lit lantern under his arm, focused on letting it fly and watch it hover over the water.

Before he left, I say one last thing. "Geez. Don't have to be all overprotective of you flea-ridden stray." I riled my eyes and tried to draw calmly, but I was furious. I am never wrong! And this time I certantly wasn't. Dogs are naturally curiuos, hence why his idiot padded up to me. My hands are literally shaking with anger.

Larkai nodded sadly. She saw a girl with Thomas and bit her lip. She knew shed never have a chance because of her...situation. she sighed sadly and clutched the basket tightly.

Adira shrugged before replying. "We could, or we could watch from here." She really didn't mind either way. However, she doubted she could make her way all the way to the other coast before they started to set them off. She wasn't slow on her paddleboard, but she wasn't exactly fast either.

Jason nodded, taking her lantern and flipping it over, inspecting the inside of it. The paper was only on the sides, leaving a small hole at the bottom to be able to lite it. Unsure where exactly he was supposed to light it, he looked to the instructions for help. Reading it over, he also listened to Lola as she responded to his question. "What do you mean? Do you need help?" He asked, still focused on the directions as he spoke, not really thinking much of what she had said. Finally figuring the thing out, he grabbed the lighter, holding the lantern by the side. Holding the small lighter in position, he ignited it and the lantern suddenly started to glow. "Ta-da!" He said with a smile, handing it to her. "You have to hold or it'll float away," he reminded her before picking up his.
