That's hard xD I would likely pick a pair of (or more) mice. I haven't had any experience with them, but they remind me of baby Lucifer (when he was a baby ratty, his ears were too big and he looked like Mickey Mouse).

Also, here's my cage set up with little Hershel. Here. You can just see the bottom of my rat cage as well.

Mice! Cuter and I mesh with them a lot better it seems. Though I'll always love my gerbils from high school.

I'm pretty excited though, even though I'm a way off yet from having rodents again, because the cage i was eyeing at my job is actually a lot larger than I thought. My calculator said up to three rats but I wasn't sure if I would feel comfortable putting three in that size. After seeing it assembled, though, I think it'll be just fine. Much larger than I thought!

Speaking of my job, yet more proof that pet store vendors and suppliers don't give a crap about their animals. We got 5 females shipped in with our order of male mice. Guess who's in the back, so pregnant that their tummies are the size of my fist? Ugh. We're not even sure what we'll do with all of these. Two have already given birth and I'll be surprised if a third doesn't go at least by the time my day off is done.

My plans for the boys helping with barn hunt is being put on hold. I need to work more with my other dog right now rather than working on a sport with Princess. Plus I'm having issues deciding 100% on which of the rats would be best for it. Still leaning towards Beast and Banchee since they are the two who like to bite the dogs if they get too close (aka no fear of dogs lol)

Plus while I know logically that it is 100% safe and wouldn't stress them out, I just worry that it will undo the training I've been doing to keep both dogs attention away from the rats. So I may just wait until I can get her into actual workshops rather than using the rats she has to live around full time. Ya know?

Tough, but I'm going to go with mice! I think that they're more fun to watch and just adorable and teeny! :3

Mice, no question, female mice specifically(or male if you have multimamates/African soft furs or neuter him) purely because they can live in groups and I hate the thought of animals living life alone

@spiderfish
I've always been a rat owner, but I'd go with mice. So adorable <3

Only my rats who are scared of my dogs try to bite them, the ones who aren't do not.

I would say mice.
"I try twice as hard and I'm half as liked, but here they come again to jack my style."
In real life I have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 2 rabbits, 26 rats, 2 gerbils, 2 cockroaches, 1 turtle, 1 axolotl, and 8 fish.

    @SpiderFish
    I've been asking myself the same question for weeks!
    I love both syrians and mice, which makes it hard to choose.

    In my experience, mice are more inclined to interact with you/cuddle
    but my syrian is cleaner. I've tried to make a list of pros/cons but in
    my eyes, the cons don't out-weigh the pros so I've been stuck.

    -----------------------------

    I've had a rough couple of weeks guys...
    I've had three animals mysteriously pass around the same time.
    One mouse, one rat, and my tarantula. I've only just now been
    able to post this. And of course the precautions were taken to
    make sure nothing was being spread between them. The remaining
    animals seem fine and I'm keeping a close eye on them.

    I do have one question though, what do you do if one rat passes and
    you only have one remaining?
    I feel kinda bad about Avery being
    by himself now. Of course I'm also worried about possibly introducing a
    new rat in case I have some kind of outbreak on my hands...not to mention
    I don't really have the option to get another one either :/
