Wolf/Dog Hybrids

Postby .Autumn. » Sun Dec 12, 2010 12:05 pm

What is your opinion on them? I think they're really great and beautiful if they're bred right. :) What do you think of them? I'm well aware that they have been know attacked children before, but dogs attack kids too, what does that have to do with it being part wolf?
Anyway that's my 2 cents.

to keep this pg rated.
i have spent a lot of my time studying wolves. went to school fo r it a bit too.
there is no reason to breed them. at all. i know numerous people who have rescued them and have tried to make them as happy as possible, but it doesn't always turn out pretty. and one lady i know spent tons of money, time and heart trying to make her one wolf dog she rescued happy, but in the end he had to be relocated to a wolf center.
wolves should remain wolves and not be bred with the domestic dog. they fill no niche in the dog world excpet for people to say i own a wolf/hybrid. there are several breeds that have that 'look' people like. so do your research on one of those breeds.
those that are already here and born deserve the proper home ( this meaning a lot for the person/people to do and be expected to do), but i do not support the breeding and i dont know anyone in the proper dog world that does.

In my opinion a wolf is a wild animal and does not belong as breeding stock for someone who breeds hybrids. I personally am against the breeding of them but that is just my opinion.

I understand that it CAN happen by accident but in that case i think people really need to learn to spay they're dogs. I think it's important that anyone who ownes one understands they're needs and that they arn't going to be like a regular dog. I agree that the idea of having one is cool.... but it comes with a lot of responsibility and it just isn't fair to the animal. As stated above i think hybrids should go to wildlife/wolf centers and be able to live more like a wild wolf than a dog. There is no way to surpress the predatory instincts of one of these animals and there is always the chance that they could go after a child or smaller animal. ((Yes dogs do this too but if a DOG is capeable of that it's probably safe to assume a hybrid is even more likely)). I don't think having a "cool" dog should be a valid reason to own an animal that you KNOW could potentially harm someone or something. That's like walking around with a loaded gun because it's "cool" (maybe a bad example).

I really like wolves and their hybrids.

I really don't like their planned and constant breeding. Occasional mixes do happen in Alaska, etc., that I have no problem with.

P.S - You can get a Hybrid with a certain percentage of wolf. There are huskies that look like wolves, but only have about a 20% trace of wolf bloodline.

I luff them. If I ever adopted a canine, most definately it would be a full dog or a hybrid. If I ever saw an abandoned Wolf pup or hybrid I would immediately take it into my home and name it Shammuu. X3

I think that wild animals are not to be messed with. There is a reason we have domesticated the dogs we have now. We have bred a lot of their hunting and aggressive behaviors out of them because they can be potentially dangerous. Having a domesticated dog is NOTHING like having even a half wolf. Keeping a part wolf as a pet is cruel to the animal. They want to be able to roam and be free. They want to hunt and be a part of a pack. Keeping it for your selfish purposes is terrible. Yes, I admit, they are beautiful animals but having one is insane (in a bad way). There's no way you could keep it happy and fulfill all of it's needs.
So no, I do not support the breeding of these animals. The people who own and especially the people who breed them are extremely selfish and take advantage of these animals. There are more then plenty of dogs up for adoption to be breeding more.

it does matter. wolves aren't "made' to read human body language well. that is why we can do what we do with dogs.
dogs can get an idea of what we want from them.

and don't give excuses for "but wolf in movie do trick!"
yeh, they have a "if I do________I get nummies". trained seals and dolphins can do that too.

a wolf dog might see a running squeealing child as prey more than a dog dog. small things that make high pitched sounds are "prey"
it would be hard to really teach a wolf dog or full wolf "our 3 year old isn't food, let him tug on your fur too"

Actually, most Hollywood "wolves" are actually Siberian Huskies or Alaskan Malamutes (usually mals - larger and more tractable than Sibes), not wolves or wolf hybrids at all.
