xxxRhianna looked up at the sound of footsteps, seeing Adelaide, or as she was known to the rebels, Addy, coming towards them. She rolled her eyes at her partner's joking remark, sticking her tongue out in response. Such a gesture was usually something she thought of as childish and would never do such a thing, but perhaps it would make her seem a little more, so to speak, 'human' to the rebels she was trying to convince to trust her. "Hush up, or I'll freeze your breakfast," Rhianna shot back to Adelaide, allowing amusement to color her words.
xxxFalling silent as Quinn introduced her powers, Rhianna briefly glanced at the boy next to her. She could tell he had the same type of power, and guessed he shared the same class as Quinn. Honestly, she and Adelaide could probably take them both, but they had already decided one was plenty. Especially since Rick was being so stuffy about sending them backup. Talk about having a stick up his butt. Returning her focus to the situation at hand, Rhianna noted the boy seemed less than happy about Quinn's openess. He really needen't bother; she could already tell what they both had for powers without anything being said. That was a gift she planned to keep quiet about, however. Instead, she offered a smile in response to Quinn's introduction of her powers. "That's pretty cool. Do you smother people with them, then? I've never used shadows to fight myself, for obvious reasons."
xxxAdelaide continued to chat with Quinn, once more aiming a joke at her, this time shared with Quinn. The boy was still silent, having yet to even say his name. She could tell Quinn was warming up to Adelaide, she was still wary of her. Conversation seemed to be like a second nature to her partner, while Rhianna found herself in unfamiliar waters. She was more the type to conduct an interview or interrogation than friendly conversation. An opinion Adelaide seemed to share, judging by the look she cast her. Quinn's remark of agreement to the fact large organizations were bound to slip up did amuse her, though. Rhianna did her best to mask her amusement, however, given this was not the appropriate situation to display it.
xxxA short silence followed, and another rebel walked up to them, introducing herself as Evelyn. Apparently their tasks began today, beginning with a run to town. Rhianna nodded in response to the question, mustering up another smile. "Yes, I'm Rhi. Food certainly sounds good, I'm starving!" Stretching, she waited for the other three to get ready to go; a trip to the nearby town would bring a bit of interest to an otherwise dull day.

Hush up, or I'll freeze your breakfast
In response to that, Adelaide mouthed 'make me' at Rhianna - her eyes lit up with the bright, genuine humour from the first morning of their assignment. Whether her partner's apparent amusement was put on for the sake of their audience or not, she decided she liked it. As much as she liked the role she'd been cast in all this - a personable side of her personality had been muted for a long time by being confined to somewhat-stilted conversations with scientifically-minded individuals.
And then she turned back to the conversation as it flowed around her, finding her footing easily. She too had wondered just how Quinn and Ricky's powers offered any combat advantage besides the obvious - submerging your enemies in darkness. Could they still see when within it? She'd have to ask for a demonstration at some point, perhaps if the others relaxed a bit more.
Her head bobbed in agreement to Quinn's statement about organizations collapsing even if she doubted it's validity. Maybe the facility they came from would collapse. But it wasn't in the way of the world to end things like this for good. Someone else with money and ideals would set something similar up. People would make excuses because people always make excuses for privilege. It stung her to consider something like this - in this sense, she too was a product of privilege. It meant that she had a choice, a safety catch - remain living comfortably, or strike out on her own into the vast unknown?
Another rebel approached, Evelyn, and got straight to telling them what they were going to be doing. Adelaide appreciated that they were being given something to do - she predicted that if she and Rhianna were left alone with the two teens they would very quickly run out of things to say, and uncomfortable silences could potentially lead to dangerous situations. She was eager to get going. "I'm Addy, yeah. And... it's that bad? No wonder Santiago was stressed... We'd best get moving then."
(ahaaa, i really wasn't pleased with this last night but then i might have had a bit to drink and had no will to write anything whatsoever. so i revised it.)

Quinn-16-Shadow Manipulation/Enhanced Fighting
Its really weird. The only time I've ever used it was to get out and protect myself in the arena. She shrugged a bit then looked to the new girl that approached, calling herself Evelyn. I'm Quinn, this is Ricky. She nodded to a still rather annoyed Ricky, rolling her eyes. He's being grumpy. But we can all help with getting food. I mean, we kinda need to, if we're staying here. She looked towards their hut. This would be there home now, and they would be safe. She smiles a bit then let it slip, deciding to cut down on the showing of her emotions.
Ricky-16-Shadow Manipulation/Speaks to animals
Are we stealing to get the food, or buying it? Ricky asked, glancing around the small circle. He glanced over at Quinn, who had seemed to have gone blank. He perked up a bit, not visibly but he still perked up. Trust was key here, bit he knew it wasn't easy to come by. And he honestly didn't want to trust anyone here.

xxxRhianna smirked at Adelaide's response, allowing a personal snow cloud to form above her partner's head. It began to snow on her, only her, huge, fluffy flakes than decorated her clothing in such a way she appeared to be straight out a Christmas card. Adelaide was in the middle of coversing again, having found a place to jump in as easily as a diver might a pool. Rhianna shook her head to herself, sighing inaudibly. She could overpower and take down almost anyone with her power, and even go nose to nose in physical combat, but the realm of true friendlies and conversation were all but impossible for her. She could talk to Adelaide easily enough; but that was only without having to conceal her true nature, and because they had been working together for year or two now. With new people, she actually had to focus on how she was acting, and what she was saying. It was almost unfair how easy Adelaide found it.
xxxQuinn and Riley introduced themselves to the new arrival soon enough, the former appeared almost happy for a second before carefully concealing it behind a blank mask, something her friend seemed to agree with. If Rhianna hadn't been trained to recognize the smallest of movements and changes in emotion, she doubted she would have noticed anything different about his posture; the change was minuscule. It was information, however, and that was something she could deal with. Quinn and Riley went together like fish and water, in order to get one away from the other would take immense amounts of trust. Adelaide was already getting Quinn to warm up to her, far more than she was. In the end, Rhianna would probably have her 'lure' the girl away.
xxxSatisfied with the way things were going, she followed Evelyn out of the camp and towards the nearby town, assuming the other three would follow.

Adelaide was still shaking half-melted snow from her shoulders as they crossed the perimeter of the camp and entered the forest. Her hair was damp, curling where it could as it dried. She could feel the wet skin of her back being dried slowly by the breeze that enveloped them, and squirmed under the feeling. Whenever her and Rhianna's eyes met she made a point of it to scowl at her - without any real malice, but thinking of ways to get her back nonetheless.
They made their way deeper and deeper into the forest, and though the difference between path and nothing at all was barely discernible, Adelaide saw that Evelyn wove her way forwards with practiced ease. She also noticed Rhianna's frustration - or the beginnings of it - with the slow progress they were making. Or perhaps with her conversational abilities, which seemed likely. All of their recent missions until this one had been pretty simple - capture or eliminate without the deception beforehand, where Rhianna's combat prowess really shone through. But this was slow progress territory, where you needed a silver tongue, not lead fists.
Deciding to 'check up', she glanced on the others in the group before moving up to walk alongside her. Her pleasant smile was cheerful Addy, for the sake of appearances, but it was Adelaide who was approaching her friend. "How're you feeling, Rhi? First day of a new life, right?" Her tone was jovial. The message was relayed through her eyes, serious, inquiring. Don't get too stressed. "I hope we're gonna stick around here for a while." It looks like we're sticking around here for a while.

Austin nodded slowly. No ranking? Just the word Axis? Austin focused on what he was doing instead of questioning this man's rank. I'm well aware of our tasks. Not really. Austin had no idea what he was doing, but it seemed to be working, and it seemed to be keeping him alive. As long as it did that, very well. The labs were always searching for more mutants, weak and strong, but since this man had no idea what the ranks were, they were probably searching for people who matched his skills. Or Austins. He had asked about powers. Perhaps they're searching for stronger mutants. 'C' and higher, perhaps. I was told they wanted anything higher than a 'C' rank. And seeing as they didn't explain the ranking system to you.. I will. D and F ranks are the lowest. They're not very strong and have smaller powers. C's are mildly powerful, and can and will put up a fight. A's and B's are the most dangerous. They've got abilities that are difficult to handle, and even control sometimes. I remember that it took thousands of tests for them to graft any animals DNA into me so I could shift into it. These ranks will put up a fight. And a good one. He pulled his back pack up some, then looked around. He assumed they wanted anything lower than a C dead. The towns back allies have plenty of mutants. Some stronger than other. We could start there.

Quinn-16-Shadow Manipulation/Enhanced Fighting Skills
Quinn followed quietly behind them, speaking in low voices so only they could hear each other. If we ever need to ditch we can do it out in the town on a run. It wouldn't be too hard, I don't think. Ricky nodded at her statement, keeping his eyes on the others ahead. Quinn nodded momentarily then quieted down, listening to the sound of feet on gravel.
