Yes, I was referring to Death Note. I can't get enough of the opening theme. Well, at least you still have the soundtrack.

Come to think of it, I love a lot of Japanese metal.

I haven't heard of them... ouo

I think I've fallen in love with Avenged Sevenfold's style. It seems like every song of theirs I listen to is amazimg xD I also watch this guy on Twitch who streams himself playing Rocksmith 2014 and he seems to always play Beezlboss by Tenacious D. The chat always explodes with "We are the D" when he plays it xD

Oooo Honking Antelope by Serj Tankian is pretty cool o3o

And Black Hole Sun by Soundgarden

And Welcome To The Family by A7X

Pretty positive this is my first time posting here, but you all seem like excellent people and for once I feel like being social. c:

Japanese metal is amazing. If you like Death Note's opening (also probably my favorite anime), you HAVE to check out more by the one and only Maximum the Hormone, who performed the "What's Up People?!" song. They're absolutely on my list of favorite bands, and they definitely inspired me to look further into Japanese metal.
Some of my favorite MTH songs:
this one first
this one after

Blood Stain Child is also wonderful, my favorite song so far by them is this.

You know what, to make this easier, here is a link to my YouTube playlist with quite a few J-Metal songs I like. I'll admit not all of them are very metal, but the vast majority are, and are thus worth checking out. c:

Listened to some Mudvayne today, thought it was pretty cool

Currently listening to Before I Forget by Slipknot xD

Changed my name back to street soldier. because Linkin Park. :D

I've pretty much fallen in love with Nightmare by a7x and Aerials by SOAD. I don't know what it is about Aerials, but to me it's a really good song. I really love Nightmare because it's pretty catchy and it's basically headbang fuel xD Especially the part that goes:

"Fight (fight!), not to fail (fail!)
Not to fall (fall!)
Or you'll end up like the others"

And the rest of that verse.

I've discovered that there are pros and cons to liking less popular (among most people you'd meet in town or wherever) bands like System or A7X. Pros are that you get to hear real talent, instead of the stuff you hear on radios that were probably made with something similar to garageband.

Cons are that there are never any chat threads anywhere to discuss just the one band.

I searched "avenged sevenfold", "a7x", "system of a down", "system" and "slipknot" on CS and there were no chat threads or fanclubs dedicated to them :( I found a Skillet fanclub and a Linkin Park fanclub but they were both dead by the time I found them.

There's definitely an A7X fan club: here
I actually don't care for their music myself, but I remember seeing the club while looking through the club archive. :b I do have their song Nightmare, and I definitely like that one, but I'm not as much into that category of metal.
I do really like System of a Down though; maybe that's because I remember listening to them when I was younger, haha.

I think the only con, in my area, is that metal is a popular genre where I live. It isn't really "weird" or "special" to listen to it. The main issue comes from the metalheads here being picky. If you don't listen to Slayer, Lamb of God, Cannibal Corpse, Behemoth, etc, then you tend to get shunned into either the, as they say, "bro metal heads" who supposedly listen to the things like A7X and Disturbed. Otherwise, if you're a core fan (Suicide Silence (new stuff), Motionless in White, Chelsea Grin) then you get made even more fun of. The worst are the post hardcore fans around here as far as treatment. You'll be downright treated like a mental patient if you listen to Falling in Reverse, old Black Veil Brides, Pierce the Veil, etc. I realize none of the last category is metal, but it still is heavier than average pop music. So, in my area metal is commonly like, but highly stereotyped. It's really sad. I love just listening to everything.

So I guess that's a big con, haha, but as long as you can hold your own, then you're fine. Standing up for yourself is all that matters.

It's also pretty neat to be walking down the street and see a group of transients playing "Raining Blood" on their neat guitars and acoustic instruments.

I've been bashed for my music tastes a few times but it was by people who are into pop or dubstep or whatever. I told one of my friends (who listens to pop punk) that I like metal, and that I listen to songs with screaming in them, then I was answered by a confused expression and "You listen to music with screaming in it?" At the time I mostly listened to Linkin Park, and it's not like Chester's screaming through whole songs. I don't mind a bit of screaming in a song now and then, but I got some song by Breaking Benjamin (I think) in my blinkbox station and even though I liked the guitars the vocals made me skip the song. It was a bit much xD

I don't really see why metal fans have to "categorise" other metal fans with that "bro metal" and stuff. I mean, my tastes range from less heavy bands like Linkin Park to bands like Machine Head, and I sometimes listen to grunge bands (mostly Soundgarden and Nirvana) and other times I'm happy to listen to Slipknot. I know a big thrash metal fan who'll sometimes listen to Michael Jackson in the car.

I think part of the reason I like early 2000's rock music is nostalgia. When I heard In The End by Linkin Park last year, I knew I'd heard that piano riff somewhere. My mum said I used to love Nickelback, and I still don't mind them even if I don't tend to listen to them much. Again, probably nostalgia. I think my dad had Hybrid Theory on his old xbox as well, and I used to love playing games on it. My dad still has it, it still has Hybrid Theory and a load of other albums by different artists on it. And then I recently found out it's got some Tenacious D on it... xD I can't even say what one of the songs is called!

Heh, speaking of Raining Blood, I got a guitar magazine in January that has a tutorial on how to play Raining Blood's riff, and recommendations on what kind of guitar/pickups would create the best sound. I think it said something about having a humbucker somewhere. My guitar only has single coils hahaha

โ—โ€ข
    Speaking of Avenged Sevenfold...
I've never really been a big fan if them, there's just so much of their music which I don't really enjoy. However, they have plenty of songs which I really love (and love to play on the piano) like Until The End, Acid Rain, I Won't See You Tonight, Fiction, Victim, Crimson Day... And so the list goes on. I just kinda don't like them as a band, even tho I love many of their songs, if that makes any sense?

I've been bashed for my music taste all my life cx Like, first it was because I liked classic rock which "pop people" nevrr understood. Then, when I started to get into metal, people in the metal comunity would bash me becaus I like, and still love, Metallica. Especially because i love Testement too, and Overkill and other โ€good" thrash metal bands as the metal heads say. Some guy once said to me "I know you have good taste in music, but why are you wasting it on Metallica and other bad bands?".

Honestly, I really don't care what people say about my music taste. I listen to whatever I like, and if other people don't like it, then okay. Yes, I am fully allowed to listen to both Slayer and Nightwish. And I can listen to as much Iron Maiden as I like. Nobody can really tell my what to do when it comes to something that is so important for me.

On another note; I've recently started to get into Death Metal. I used to "keep away" from that genre, but now I can't keep away anymore, and I've discovered that it is surprisingly good. I have no idea whereto start tho, because I need to find some bands to listen to. Right now I'm only listening to radio channels which sends death metal music, but I feel the need to have specific bands that Ilike, bbecause as it is now, I don't know any bands within that genre and that makes it hard for me to talk death metal with other people cx

Yeah, I saw a lot of people on YouTube hating on Slipknot, and I really don't see why they do it. I don't see why anyone would do it to anyone, really, it just upsets and aggravates their fans. There was one person bashing a7x and Slipknot in the comments of one of a7x videos and the person was giving them really offensive and immature 'nicknames'. Alright, we can see that they don't like either of them, but it doesn't mean that they have to post those things on YouTube (and on one of the band's songs, no less), it just upsets people who listen to those bands. That same person and a few other people were saying that a7x and Slipknot are talentless emo pop bands when they obviously aren't. And I wouldn't call Corey Taylor talentless, I found a website a few days ago that has Corey listed as having one of the largest vocal ranges, I think it was about five and a half octaves.

I haven't really listened to any death metal, so I probably can't suggest any bands xD

I'm kinda glad there isn't much of a metal-loving community where I live, I'd have probably been shunned for liking Slipknot and Linkin Park. I haven't seen any LP hoodies or t-shirts in my size at the shop yet :c
I'm thinking about going to the music shop down the street at some point and seeing if they have any albums by my favourite bands. I'd imagine they won't, since most of the music I listen to is pretty old, but it's worth a try.
