How many people feel a connection to their plumie mostly based on colors or design?
Well, originally, it was a spark of inspiration from a design that helped me form some semblance of a character idea.
So, I guess, at first, it was design, but developed into a connection to the character ^^

What about the Plumie led you to form that connection with it for the first time?
Benji was his history and motivations that helped me connect with him
For Lucian, it was his fear that drove his entire personality
