Firetail lifted her head from the nest she was planted on and let out a yawn. She rose to her paws and padded out of the den, greeted by the cool breeze brushing her fur. She noticed that Thorntail was awake and padded over. "Greetings, Thorntail,"she meowed.

Rapidclaw turned around. "Yes, I'm perfectly fine. My claw was stinging this morning from the dog fight, so I just came in here to get something for it," he purred.

"G'morning," Thorntail meowed in reply. He yawned, his thorn sharp teeth shining in the weak light. He looked over at Firetail. "Are you on dawn patrol?" He asked. He knew the answer; if she was on patrol she would have been gone by now. "Sorry, dumb question. My mind's still a little foggy."

"It's okay, it happens sometimes. I'm not on the dawn patrol by the way,"she replied, giving him a slight smile. She paused for a moment, trying to think of what to say. "So, do you want to go hunting?" Firetail asked, sitting down and curling her tail over her paws.

Rapidclaw chuckled. "It's not like I went up to it and said: 'Hey dog, could you wrench my claw, please?' Come on, Belugaheart. I'm fine," he purred.

Thorntail thought, then nodded. "Sure. I've got nothing important that needs my immediate attention to do," he chuckled.

"Great! Race you to the camp entrance!" She joked, and took off. Firetail sprinted to the camp entrance, the wind ruffling her fur as she ran.

Thorntail was surprised when she raced away, but he was up in an instant. He bolted towards the entrance, easily gaining on Firetail.

Firetail noticed that Thorntail was catching up, and she forced herself to move faster. The wind felt good in her fur, and she kept her gaze focused on the camp entrance. The camp entrance was only a few tail lengths away.

Thorntail easily bounded faster, but thought about it as he passed her. He smiled and deliberately 'tripped' over a random branch lying in his path. He tumbled, falling behind. He had let her win on purpose. He stood up and shook out his long pelt, trying to look sad. "Stupid branch! I could have won!" He growled, then broke out into a smile. He couldn't help it anymore.
