psh, flutes are just quiet. We don't even have flutes in our band. Only piccolos since their high pitch can actually be heard. And just thank god you weren't behind trumpets or mellophones. THOSE are some loud instruments. I though I was going to go deaf once,

The director gives all the trumpets mutes. We have 6 percussionists, all of whom only play snare, and quite loudly at that. I'm first chair flute, and next year I will start learning the french horn.

Good luck. French horn is HAAAARD. Even in wind ensemble senior year of high school the french horns had trouble finding notes

I even tried the tuba mouthpiece and I did well
Though I stuck with flute because I would be squished under a tuba
