Ashpaw looked seriously at the flower. "It kind of looks like bloody claws." She observed clinically, suppressing a shudder. "Do you know what it's called?" Her tail twitched uncertainly as she looked at her mentor.

"My best guess it is a sub-species of the Blazing Star, a potent herb used my our great ancestors. It might be deadly, but we can test it together." Hawkbreeze looked at it grimly, flicking her tail to the medicine cat den. "Would you please get me and oak leaf?"

Owlwhisker padded along, his nose twitching, trying to find a badger set. The Tom was happy to have Tigerfang with him- He seemed loyal, but they hadn't talked much, so Owlwhisker wanted to get to know him. As deputy, he should know all the clan cats and be friendly with them all. "So, Tigerfang," he said, interrupting his own thoughts. "I hear Hammerkit will be your apprentice."

Finally arriving back in camp, though after many breaks during her slow run, as she was not fast at all. Still panting hard, she realized Tigerfang and Owlwhisker where gone. "Oh well." She meowed between her heavy breathing. She composed herself and sighed. She would settle for a hunt later. She looked around for Hawkbreeze to see if she knew what the pure red plant was.

Ashpaw nodded and dashed to the medicine den, galloping back with two dried oak leaves. She dropped one and put her paw on it, holding out the other toward Hawkbreeze, mindful of the delicateness of the dried leaves. She had no idea what her mentor wanted to do with the leaves, so she brought an extra on purpose in case something happened to mess up the first try.

Tigerfang nodded. "Yes, Rabbitstar just told me. Do you know who will be mentoring Bladepaw?" He asked, his tone offhand as he subtly turned the conversation away from himself. He didn't like getting to know his enemies, though he wasn't stupid enough to let them know he hated them. Besides, getting to know the cats he needed to kill would make it more difficult for him later. Better to talk about things besides themselves, he was certain.

"Hey guys!" Rabbitstar shouted startlingly, yet in her usual gleeful demeanour. "So, did you find out what the plant is? What's it like? Does it know plants are only red in leaf-fall? Does it know it's still leaf green? Can you ask it? can it talk? is it magic? Is it from starclan? does it taste like badger?"
Rabbitstar's nonsensical questions ceased to stop.

"Rabbitstar, may you kindly cease questions?" Hawkbreeze mewed in a stressed tone. She turned to her apprentice, and asked, "Could you please get fresher leaves? They have to be pliable." She flicked her tail, off-white fur gently swaying in the breeze.

Ashpaw nodded and took the dry leaves back, searching through the piles until she found a suitably fresh leaf. Once more she galloped back out to her mentor, offering the leaf to her.

Hawkbreeze nodded. "Thank you. Now let's get to work." She took the large oak leaf in her jaws and gently plucked the plant out of the ground, turning away from Rabbitstar's den and heading to her den.

Ashpaw followed her mentor, very curious about the strange plant that had appeared. Who knew- it could be a sign or a special medicine or something.
