The character challenge allows authors to take certain prompts and practice creating and developing characters.

Many of the prompts will be based on literary archetypes that are often present in novels, and will challenge an author to build a character around each archetype, yet make it different and unique. One of my favorite ways to analyze a novel is through the symbolism it uses, whether that be through allusions to classic pieces or by using common symbols to reflect a deeper meaning. I wanted to give writers on CS a chance to practice that out of context of regular writing, and also to discuss character development techniques.

Often times, there are authors who delve into a work by first creating a plot. I am an author who really focuses on characters. This is a place where writers of that kind can talk about their character development strategies, and also participate in fun exercises.

2: Create your own thread for the challenge
3: The characters do not need to be created in order, but it might help if they were
4: Help others if they ask for it
5: Share your progress/tribulations with the community! Everyone here wants to help.
