Mother~of~Dragons wrote:Guys you need to understand Dream is just trying to make Bear Run the best it can be. With the rate we are growing at we need artists that have consistency when posting adopts and yes I understand people get busy and can't always get on but still Dream is just trying to make the community happy by having Tolters to adopt. I'll admit she could have messaged the now retired artists before hand to let them know but everyone makes mistakes so just give her a break. Things are just starting to settle down after ownership was transferred and still Dream is doing everything to make people happy and keep Bear Run growing. We need balance more than ever and that wont happen if we always have people leaving or getting upset over something that only exists on the internet. The retired artists can still try out for the artist comps and I hope they all do because I loved all of their designs. I support the decisions Dream made and I think you should go easy on her because I'm sure if you guys ran Bear Run you would have to make those kind of tough decisions too.
Most of the artists that were retired posted adopts just days ago. It seems unfair to them when they weren't even notified.. Everyone comes across problems in life. CS is a game and it is supposed to be secondary to real life - the reason we are on this planet. Artists can't post tolters every day sometimes. They are pixels, and yes they make people happy, but the world continues to spin if the artists happen to not post a tolter one day.

You guys, just so you all know, no matter what you may post or do, our decisions are final and won't be changing. We didn't make these choices overnight, obviously I wasn't even on last night. It's not even the adopts themselves that affected the decision of retiring some artists. Sure they may have made some just a day or so ago, but some give themselves far too many customs, and just et cetera. If you're upset you're going to have to learn to at least deal with it hopefully. This isn't the end of the world and we are still capable of making it. So long as the community doesn't just throw everything away because of not agreeing with things done. Life goes on. We didn't wish to send messages out to those we were retiring, it's as simple as that. It wasn't a mistake. Dream, gator and I came to this decision, therefore we believed we were doing what was best for all of you. Accept that for what you will. And please, don't even think about messaging dream and being harsh or cruel. I will ask her who all have, if anyone has, and be sure that whatever punishment I deem needed is given.

I usually don't get involved in arguments and upsets and all that jazz. But, that being said, I don't agree with the decision being made. I'm not going to try to change it or bash on anyone, but think of it from my perspective for a second.
What happened here showed, to me atleast, a lack of respect for the artists you are retiring. Retiring them is fine, that's your decision, (though if I'm being honest I don't see the point in retiring them, as they are a loved part of the community and we don't have a overflow of tolters), but to tell them at the same time as everyone else, without first contacting them and explaining why... that isn't right. I get why you wouldn't want to, but it's still the better thing to do. I get decisions are decisions, so I haven't tried to change them, I only stated what I saw.
I'm truly sorry to see the artists go, but I won't be leaving, even if I am slightly disappointed. Once again, I'm not trying to bash on or upset dream. Thank you for reading this.
On another note, congratulations to all those who are now permanent artists! I hope your stay with the tolters will be bright and full of gloriously coloured ponies!

-tentatively raises hand-
If I may voice my opinion on the matter (with no disrespect intended): I think at least a pm to the artists and a small discussion laying out the points of why you would like them to step down would have been a reasonable thing to do, instead of just blurting out that they can no longer be an artist. I respect your decisions, but it's a bit sudden and shocking to do things this way (in my opinion), and I think I'm right in saying a bit if a warning would yield less of a negative response than a straight up "You're out" public message.
Frankly, if you're looking at activity anyway, why haven't I been booted out? Due to circumstances, just like Inky's absence is due to personal circumstances, I have made very few tölters in the last few weeks, and probably months, so I don't see how this has been based on genuine activity...
That being said, this is just a very simplified version of my opinion on the matter, and it is not a jab at anyone in particular.

I agree that it would have been better to bring it up privately beforehand. I'm sad to see the old artists go, however, I understand why that decision was made. Just think it's only fair for them to know before everyone else with a detailed explanation.
Congrats to all the guest artists getting a permanent position, you're all bringing beautiful designs to the community.
I'm excited to see the sheepdogs being developed since I have come to fall in love with them. I hope I can get the chance to be a part of it ;-;

We understand very clearly that everyone is upset over messages not being sent out before hand. And the soul reason behind people being retired was not due to absence alone. For instance, lack of activity in the community, not only putting out adopts. Also, being disrespectful towards rule changes and others. Ignoring requests to judge competitions or doing agings, or getting upset for being asked to do their job.
Husky, there was no reason for you to have gone. We understand you haven't made many adopts, but you're extremely friendly and kind, and that's the atmosphere that we wish to have in this community. I would rather have 50 artists that make an adopt every now and again, are friendly to all, and participate in the community, over an artist that thinks they don't have to listen to what those in charge have to say.
To sum things up, the artists shouldn't have been too overly surprised.

Alright I'm just going to say this. This comes from me, a staff perspective since I don't post here barely at all, I just work on the archive. Anyway,
Supposedly artists were retired to make the community happy because that's what they want. But nobody asked the community what they wanted. And if more tolters was what they wanted, I don't understand how retiring( more like firing them since they didn't willingly retire) much loved artists is helping make more tolters.
I have seen a lot of customs but it's mostly only between artists and staff. Firing them without telling them beforehand is just rude, imo.
As for potato, she was "fired" because apparently someone doesn't like her, and I feel like the too many customs issue was directed at her. She's made me 2 customs, and that's for me being an archivist. She's a great artist and puts time into her beautiful designs, and personally I would rather see that instead of 20 speed tolters that are just painted one color and the eyes and hooves aren't colored.
I'm staying because I love you guys and tolters but I believe things have gotten way personal around here.
For future reference I think the staff should ask the community what they want before making a major decision and saying it's what they want, when it's not.

I second skyyfox's post: contacting the staff themselves should be priority number one when it comes to staff changes. Firing someone without first notifying them is rude, and even in real world jobs it's a rare occurrence. Like seriously, I've been working for a few years now and I've seen it happen just once.
I also don't really see an issue with the customs thing? If you're afraid that people will make too many, why not add a rule that says something along the lines of
"Staff-made customs are limited to 2 per staff member per month"?
I don't mean to sound rude, but that seems like basic common sense, rather than suddenly terminating somebody's employment here for something that they likely didn't even know was a bad thing.
