a pretty, dark brown mare was grazing, alone, on a hill. her name was maple leaf, leaf for short. she had long legs, despite her age. her dark, chocolate brown eyes were sad and tired. she had just been seperated from her herd. and to make it worse, her filly had been stillborn. she gave a loud, sad nicker that spread over the rolling hills. it was winter, she didn't have a herd, and it was winter. she gave a quiet nicker and went back to grazing.

leaf saw a figure coming towards her. she gave an excited nicker and galloped down the hill to meet the stallion. she was lonely, scared, and sad. she needed a stallion to protect her. she reared up and nickered. her eyes watched the cloud of flurries coming towards her.
