first, I want to say I'm sorry for being inactive. Coming from the admin assistant, that's pretty pathetic, but whatever cx I'll try to be more active guys, for your benefit. I have plenty of reasons to give why I haven't really said much in a while, but I doubt you want to hear my excuses.

Anyway, first I want to say congrats to everyone who's won a chima. You guys are so good, I mean, a lot of you have three and I'm the admin assistant and I only have one! go figure cx

and as for the rp, it's seems fun and I might join if I have time! I think a simple slice of life rather than an AU Apocalypse thing would suit me best though. This is just for chimas to meet, right? Nothing is wrong with the latter type, but I've found a lot of rps like that don't go very far. Just some thoughts.

I find my inspirations from the world around me. From a simple pencil to a landscape.
What I recommend doing when starting out is to use pre-made plattes. Remember to credit the one to make the platte.
For the second question all I can say is design something eye catching. I don't know how else to get ones attention.

I often find inspiration in photographs and just things I notice in real life! Sometimes I just build my own color palettes from scratch and try to make something out of that.. c:

The best way to catch someone's eye is by using the basic elements and principals of art - for designs, you might focus primarily on the concepts of complementary/analogous colors, and rhythm. If you want your design to pop out, maybe try using colors opposite to each other on the color wheel (i.e. purple and yellow, green and red) or use strong dynamics such as white markings on a dark grey base. It also helps to keep your line edits neat and consistent, and try not to make it look like you just threw a bunch of random colors together. I suggest, if you want to make a complicated design, start off slowly and add another layer of complexity as you go until you're completely satisfied. How I like to make my designs is I will pick a color slightly lighter or darker than the base, make a few gradients here and there, then take another lighter color and add onto it, so on and so forth. It's kind of difficult to explain. ^^;
But as for catching the judge's eye, it really just depends on what kind of impact you're trying to give the viewer and and how neatly it is composed. Different people have different ideas of how a 'good' design looks, so just keep this in mind when designing
