hi there brodents of CS!
as someone who has had rats for most of their life in sometime or another, not having any for a long time has gotten to me recently, and seeing all the happy parents/owners has made me decide to look into adopting again!
for the past few months, i've been researching and talking to multiple reputable breeders around where i live, and recently, i met a wonderful breeder who lives relatively close to me and who will travel! The litter i'm adopting from will be ready and weaned by a month's time, and i will be adopting two brothers, some cute Siamese babies!(still cant think of good matching names!)
i've already purchased their come-home cage for 89 dollars last night (no big bar spacing and not too pricey, thank goodness for Martin cages!) and will be prepping it for their come home date soon! if anyone has any suggestions on favourite toys and such, please let me know, im open to suggestions!
just wanted to say hi to all of you and share some happy news with people who can appreciate it heh

Here's my two cents.
Spiderfish, you do honestly need to take it down a notch. It's not really that insulting to say "I can't believe some people manage to get their rats pregnant somehow!" It's really, really not that insulting. I don't know anybody who would get insulted over that. Fuzzy was obviously just making a statement that had nothing to do with you, either. Your word choices towards fuzzy have been extremely vile. Not ton mention, this is a discussing AND a personal update thread. We can post whatever we want as long as it's about rodents.
Fuzzy, when I first go black bear I thought he was a girl and I got him at 2 months. It's not always painfully obvious that one is a male and one is a female, especially at a young age. You can't blame people for not knowing.

Hmm.
Rats are awesome, but I have other pets..
not to mention, I donthink my family wants rats.
Althougn, I would probably get one, Even tho rats are very delicate and are pretty vulnerable to sicknesses..
Right? Eh, who knows..
@fuzzy
ur rats seem very pampered!
XD
im glad they live in a safe, nice home!

Thank you!

I have rats with many other pets lol. They must be kept in pairs or groups. They aren't delicate at all, but they do rack up vet bills fast since they're prone to many things.

I got Rin at 4 weeks and he was painfully obviously male.
Hazelle was sold to me as male. She had no obviously defining sexual features at all.
Having got her from an independent pet shop, who's owner breeds the rats himself, who has being doing so for years and has always been extremely knowledgeable and helpful, I had no reason to doubt him.
Sexing isn't as black & white as it seems. And it's not that easy for some people either, especially less experienced people.
I've dealt with hundreds of baby GPs, but still struggle sexing young pigs.
And even if it happens in your own home, you can't judge unless you know the entire situation.

I've had it happen twice.
The other thing people forget is rats can escape. I had a boy very adapt at escaping his cage even after it was made like Fort Nox came home he had let himself out and my girls. I ended keeping him down stairs were he still let himself out ( cages we not as solid as they are know ) but couldn't get to the girls.
You can not blame people for making an honest mistake the fact rats can breed from 5 weeks its not all plane sailing and trying to sex squirming ratlings isn't easy we are human we make mistakes.

Ive never sent home a male as a female, BUT Ive had males that looked female (kept their stuff pretty hidden). I sex mine from day 1, so I know how many are males and how many are females before they can start hiding, lol.
@ Tipsy-sorry I didnt see it sooner. My computer has been acting up

Going by apperances only:
The 1st one appears to be an agouti double belted or banded (cant really see how thick the bands are)
The 2nd one is black with a headspot (If there was more white, could almost fall under hereford)
Generically, they both could be piebald/broken that just happen to look belted and have a headspot
