My name was Antoinette, such a beautiful and classy name, but everyone calls
me Anne now. They say Anne fits me better. I guess they are right. Nothing is
like what it used to be anymore, and all from such a simple mistake. I thought
it was just a doll... I couldn't have been more wrong.

It was an adorable little bear, even had a purple tummy that said "Wish". I
had found it walking home with my group of friends. After much giggling
and conversation they dared me to pick it up and wish on it. That was
where all fell apart. It took me a while to think of a wish, I thought of
everything that had gone on in my life, all the chaos and mess right now,
so I wished to be special, unique. I thought it was a pretty good wish...
at the time.
I looked at my friends, and they returned the glaces, after pressuring me
what my wish was, and me denying them, we eventually carried on with
our walk home. At the time I was secretly bummed the doll was a fake,
but what did I expect? When I arrived home I opened my purse to reveal
the secretly stashed bear and set it on my shelf.
==================================
It was hard to sleep that night, I had nightmare after nightmare, I had
woken up several times through the night with the sweats and tears. When
I had woken up in the morning I could not believe my eyes! I looked at my
paws and they had completely changed colors! I jumped out of bed and ran
to my bathroom, my whole body had changed! From my horns to my tail,
even my feathers! I turned from a glamorous gal to a tough love, hard soul
appearance. How had this happened?! Wait... The bear! I ran back out to
my room and looked at the bear. Wait... Had its eyes just turned red? I
rubbed my eyes, no... I must have been seeing things. But the bear was
the only possible explanation for this transformation. Well, I was not the
only one who had changed, now this little bear was all torn up, and the
'wish' sign is gone too.

This news would blow my friends minds! So I ran downstairs to grab the home phone, but another surprise was waiting for me. First of all my parents had changed too, but they had a grey scale theme. And when they looked at me their eyes were red, and my own mother gave me the creeps! I crept away to where the phone usually is only to find a black sleeping cat with the same red eyes, and let out a wicked hiss. I screamed and jumped back. After calming my racing heart, I glanced at the clock, and was two hours late for school! How had this happened? I ran upstairs, retrieved my book bag and raced out the door. But stopped dead in my tracks at the sight of my neighbor hood, the trees had taken on the shape of clawed hands reaching out at passing boys and girls. The houses were all colorless, along with the people. When a small child looked at me, my attention caught on his long fangs, and I also noticed everyone's drab colors. It seemed I was the only one who did not have a gray scale scheme. The boy looked at me with shock on his face. "IT'S HER!" He screamed, startling me. A mother ran across the street and scooped him up with terror on her face. I took a few stunned steps back, and noticed three blinding white guard figures charging at me, so I took to natural instinct and ran.

I ran in a zig zag path to escape
the reaching trees. And hot tears
streamed down my face. After reaching my breaking
point I squatted behind a dumpster in a dimly lit ally
way. How was it night already? Had I really run for
that long? I caught a piece of flying paper in my vision,
and reached to grab it. It read "Antoinette, wanted by
the national defense department (NDD). Dead or alive."
And the very bottom of the poster listed a phone number
and "Difference is demise". I had to get out of here!

It has been three years, and I have learned much on my journey. I learned that I was wanted by the NDD because of my colorations, they believed everyone needed to be the same, in some ways I admired the idea, the leader wanted everyone to be equal, in appearance, monetary stance, and property. But the way they went about this was all the wrong way. They picked off the unique ones and forced them to work, some underground, some building new cities, and others worked in production industries. It was sick.
My simple teenage wish, had turned my life upside down, and thrown me into an alternate universe. There have been many long nights where I have only wished to return home. I had tried to meet up with my old friends, they had me in there homes for a good five minutes, but they tried to turn me in. I was on my own for the first year, but in the two to follow some kind souls had offered my a house to stay for the night, before moving to the next. I had found a large group of other escapees like me, but even there I was to different. So I resorted to a small crafted underground bunker. I would sneak into town at night and steal canned goods, I had even gone back to my house once and gathered my belongings, even the bear. He was my only companion, for lack of motivation and creativity, his name was Teddy. As childish as it was, he brought a smile to my face.
I have tried many experiments in order to return back to my home, but all have failed. In this topic I have lost hope.

It was a cloudy and dark day when I found her. My true mother. I know if
I had the characteristics I did, my parents could not be of the normality.
And I was right. My true mother was a sorceress, and knew who I was
before I even step foot in the door. "Antoinette...." She had said "No
sorry, just little old me." I said before realizing my true name was
Antoinette, and not Anne. "Don't fool with me child, come in, and sit. I
have waited for this day." After slight hesitation, I sat down, and took in
my surroundings. What I saw was anything but the stereotypical 'witch'
house, it looked like all other homes I had seen, but this one of course
being in the pit of a tree. She had explained who I was, and what
happened, in this reality. But before I could tell her she was wrong, she
went on to explain what happened in my reality. I was jaw dropped. We
spent hours talking, and right when I was readying to take my leave, for
the sun was close to rising, she told me how to get back, and told me
now was the only time I could do so. She ordered me to collect a few
substances and return as soon as I could, which of course I ran at full speed
out of the house. I returned with all the needed supplies and little torn up
teddy. All I remember after that was flashes of light and colored smoke,
when I awoke with a start in my bed. My heart racing I jumped out of bed,
and took in the glorious sights. After getting my fill, I went to the bathroom
to wash my face, and figure out if this was a crazy dream. But what I found
was unmistakable, I still had the coloration as I did in my dream, so it
could not have been a dream...

I knew I could not tell anyone what had
happened, or they would throw me in the
loony bin for sure! So it was my life, and
my secret.
