I highly suggest that those involved in the wolf image conversation read the tutorial about removing backgrounds. Any one of those wolf pictures could have have had their backgrounds cleanly removed.

That's not quite how it works. There needs to be an actual tool that you write about. In the case of borders, you would actually make a tutorial on the marquee tool. You'd say where it is, the basics of how you use it, and then you'd say that this tool can be used to make borders to weave in and out of the picture (and you'd probably link to the weaving tutorial there too).

That depends on how much text you want. Start with 200 pixels and see where that gets you.
