⋆ Even the longest con was never more than an assortment of moments that were in themselves very, very short ⋆

name
it's meg. just meg. please, don't ever call me megaera; that was my mother's name.
age
I'm twenty, and it feels like I've been twenty for a really, really long time.
gender
I'm female, last time I checked.
relationships
I met a man once. We had a...strange relationship. It was four years or so ago, and I was young and stupid then. I'll never forget how much he broke my heart. Even now that he's gone he plagues my thoughts. I need to find a way to see him again, if only just once. For closure. His name was Jason, and he lied to me.
label
Label? Well, I was a serving girl a while back. That's how I met Jason. After he left me to return home, I became a sort of runaway. I guess the best word to describe me would be thief. I'm the best pickpocket around, and don't you forget it. In fact, I just stole your coin purse. Here, you can have it back. The knowledge that I tricked you is the only treasure I need.
appearance
Meg is small and built for stealth. She stands about 5'4" and weighs only around 115 pounds. She is set like the thief she is. She has long reddish brown hair that is often tied up or plaited in some way, and her skin is pale with a few freckles on her shoulders and nose. She carries with her a set of knives and a purse of stolen trinkets and treasures. Meg has pretty brown eyes that would shine even more brightly if she smiled more often than she does. Her voice is skeptical and cynical, and she has dimples that don't often appear.
history
Meg was born in Athens and raised in a poor family. She had two older brothers who served in the king's army, and died at relatively young ages. She herself became a maid in the palace at age fourteen, working to support her last remaining family member; her ailing mother. Meg had never really gotten on all that well with her mother. Meg wanted to travel and to make a place for herself, but that was never possible for girls, and her mother strongly vetoed it. So she served the nobility begrudgingly. Her name does mean 'grudge,' after all. Two years later, a dark stranger came to the palace. He was handsome, and spoke of places to the far east and enchanting encounters with gods. Meg was entranced. She hung on his every word, and though he was visiting to court the princess, the two often had stolen moments alone, and soon developed a steamy, yet forbidden romance. Meg, young and innocent at the time, believed she was in love. She wanted to run away together, but he denied her affection, saying that the time just wasn't right. A few months later, he left, leaving only a farewell note for his besotted lover. Jason Ere, the mysterious traveller, had left for the underworld. Meg couldn't believe it. They had been visited by a god! Had it really been Hades himself? Was it she he was after? Meg tore herself up inside, wondering at what had caused such a mysterious visitor. But it was his absence that led her to never trust again. She ran away, leaving everything she had know behind, and started to get into pickpocketing and thievery. But she could never forget Jason, and never stopped wondering if he truly was the god of the underworld.
personality
Meg is cynical and sarcastic, always seeing the bad in things before the good. She hates to have fun unless it's at another's expense, and never, ever asks from help from a man. She is untrustworthy and flighty, but at her core she is brave, and that's what matters most, does it not? She is hard to explain, and easy to misjudge, but an excellent ally to have. Meg would rather be thrown in a pit of snakes blindfolded and forced to navigate her way through a labyrinth of flames than stoop to being rescued or helped by anyone. Basically, Meg hates everything.

. . . .
my name is chryseis, pleasure
to be speaking with you. i was
the only one in my family to
choose who i married, and i
chose iason. i love him dearly,
perhaps a bit too much for
my own good. the reason i say
this is because i have not yet
told him of my condition, and
i do not plan on doing so. i am
ill, you see. my skin only gets
paler with each day, and my
heart begins to fail me more
and more often. i hardly ever
leave my home, in fear that i
will faint in public. if i do, i
leave with iason. i do not wish
to die, [who does?] however,
i know that at my eighteen
years of life, i will not live to
turn nineteen. i also know, my
complexion will return to me
in the underworld. who knows,
perhaps i will drink from the
river of lethe and be reincarnated.
of course, this will cause me to
forget this life, but i may be able
to live longer and with passion in
the next one. that, or i could try
to win the sympathy of hades's
wife with my story. persephone
would be willing to make sure
iason is alright, and perhaps have
him find a woman that can bare
his son. because i cannot.

⋆ Without darkness, one cannot truly know light. ⋆

name
    Call me Jason.
age
I look to be in my early twenties, but I am truly ageless.
gender
I am male. I am half mortal, half olympian; I am a demigod.
relationships
I have had many over the course of my time on the earth. The most memorable was an affair with an athenian serving girl. She was made of fire, but alas, I had to leave her. If my father would allow me, I would have made her my queen under the earth. But alas, I live in eternal darkness, overseeing the toils of the underworld under my father's orders.
label
I am a child of hades. Well, I am the child of hades. The only one that ever amounted to anything, that is. I was mortal once, but my father granted me the life of a minor god when I died, so I am now the god of grief and also recovery. I aid souls on their journey to the afterlife, and help to pass judgement on their actions as a living being.
appearance
Jason is tall and muscular, built like a great battle hero, as that's what he was in life. He has curly dark brown-black hair and warm blue eyes. He has a knowing smile, and appears sensitive and charming. He stands around 6'2" and weighs about 195 pounds. He is protective and strong, and he has a charming smile. Often, before girls even know him or his personality, they will melt just because of his good looks. Jason, of course, finds this rather embarrassing, but that just makes him even more attractive.
history
Jason was born to a young woman in the city-state of Athens and raised as a normal child. His mother never told him of his true parentage, but Jason always knew something was a little off. He never made friends, and he was always more interested in the earth than he was in people. Death or despair never saddened him, and people thought him strange because of it. As he grew to be a teenager, Jason realized his own strength. Being the child of a god, he was unnaturally talented in areas like battle strategy and brute strength. In an effort to fit in somewhere, he became a member of the king's army. It was later on the battlefield that Hades first appeared to him. He was fighting, swing his sword with grace and power when he made the finishing blow upon his opponent. Jason watched the man die, but at the same time he didn't. The other soldier's spirit lifted away, still solid, but obviously in pain, and lost. Jason was terrified, and felt like he had just made a horrible mistake. Hades appeared then, momentarily slowing time to speak to his son. He showed Jason all of the fallen souls on the battlefield, and how they were his burden for who he was. At first, Jason tried to escape this. He hated his mother for keeping this from him, and fled the army to learn the art of healing; Jason wanted to save lives rather than ruin them. He travelled all over Greece, picking up new skills and courting women he met along the way. When he turned twenty, Jason was drafted into the army. He couldn't escape this time, and the king knew of his skill in battle, and guessed at him being part god. He fought in battle, leading the armies and wincing as he watched tortured souls escape to the underworld. On the final battle, Jason was about to plunge his sword into the heart of the opposing general when a foot soldier plunged a knife into his back. Hades, too proud of his son to see him die, saved his soul from judgement, and made him a minor god for his noble actions, overseeing grief and recovery after death. Jason was allowed a home in the underworld, helping spirits cope with their fate. He visits the surface every so often to help people he sees grieving. It was on one of these visits that he met Megaera. She was the greatest mortal he had ever seen, in all his time of living. But his father disapproved, not wanting to lose his loyal son. He called Jason back, never to return to the surface world. Jason lives, lost and alone, stuck in a rut of grief himself, wishing only to be reunited with his seemingly true love.
personality
Jason is quiet and kind, with a willingness to help everyone he comes across. His job is to make people feel welcome, and he performs it well. He is a hopeless romantic with a yearning for a normal life, despite the honor of being a god. He has never met anyone who captured his heart so much as Megaera, and doesn't see himself with another woman until she is many years dead and gone. He may be silent, but he cares deeply for all those he comes into contact with. In spite of his seemingly perfect exterior, Jason is distant and distracted, making it hard to break his shell. He is also shy, and doesn't desire conflict.

⋆ Megaera Solace
pickpocket ⋆ orpheus ⋆ going to find Jason ⋆ Iason
_________________________________________________________________

The day was humid, making Meg's hair frizz slightly. She pulled it back into a knot as the slunk through the crowds of the marketplace, silently searching for her next victim. She was small, and appeared to be nothing more than an innocent bystander to the throngs of people searching to buy figs or strips of leather fort whatever purpose. But Meg Solace was only innocent in her smile. Her brown eyes told a different story. Meg wasn't usually one to stay in one place for very long, and today was not an exception. She was headed towards the mountains in the east, where it was rumored the gates of the underworld were hidden. It won't even pay off, she thought to herself, rubbing her hands together as she slipped past someone arguing with a street vendor over the price of clay urns. But Meg pushed the doubt aside. She would find Jason. She had to.

Catching sight of a man a little apart from the crowd, Meg smiled to herself. He looked distracted, wistful almost, and as though he weren't shopping like the rest of the Athenians. He looked as though he were on a mission. Sidling up behind the soon-to-be unfortunate victim of thievery, Meg carefully slid her hand into his pocket, searching for a coin purse, or a trinket. She was quiet and catlike, moving her hands with the grace of a dancer. It's despicable how good you've gotten at this, spoke that annoying little voice in her head. It was true, but that didn't mean Meg didn't enjoy taking advantage of wandering people on the street.

Grasping a leather pouch of coins, Meg began the extraction process. Time seemed to slow when she was stealing; however, the process only took about thirty seconds. Holding her prize, Meg tried to slink away when she made to worst of all rookie mistakes. She tripped on her sandals, landing in the dust at the feet of the man she had just stolen from. Panicking, Meg winked and scrambled to her feet, running in the direction of the bazaar. Maybe if she could hide herself in the crowds, he wouldn't find her. Maybe that was just wishful thinking.

    { I hope I made it clear that she's stealing from Iason cx not a very good starting post, but eh, none of them are }

⋆ Jason Ere
child of Hades ⋆ Eurydice ⋆ greeting the dead ⋆ all of the spirits
_________________________________________________________________

The domain of Hades was a very strange place indeed. It didn't wallow in eternal blackness, as one might expect, but it certainly wasn't a field of flowers. Unless, of course, you made it to Elysium. But that's just improbable. Very few people these days are that inherently good. Jason stood at the gates of the underworld, watching as a line of spirits floated in, most of them empty in sight and mind. He was in his military gear, standing like a guard over the new entries. Each day he waited, watching for the woman he left so suddenly. He knew that, to see her dead, would break his own heart, but it would mean that he could watch her, wonder at what might have been. Alas, Megaera was a strong individual. She wouldn't be caught dead, well, dead. Jason would have to deal with the fact that he was to be alone in his duties.

The gates of the dead were silver white, shining like stars among the gloom of the spirit. Their purpose was not to keep people out, but to welcome them in. Jason himself had designed them after being welcomed into his father's realm as an honored guest. Sweeping his deep blue cloak around his shoulders, Jason stepped off of his post to walk among the spirits. He did this sometimes, just to take away some of the grief and despair that ran rampant throughout the fields of Asphodel. The spirits chittered like bats, gazing past him and seeing their own version of hell. Everyone was different and coped in their own way.

Every once in a while, there was a spirit he came across that was not all the way dead. They could speak, and articulate phrases, but they always seemed distracted. Usually, these were the ones who died abruptly, or with feeling left unspent/ They were always the saddest, and the ones Jason was drawn to. He wove his way among the new arrivals, trying to understand their troubles. He only wished he could do more to soothe their grief. But even the magic of the gods could only go so far.

iason and chryseis

IASON-LINOS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

it hasn't even been an hour since she has passed, and already he was creating a poem in
memory of his beloved in his head. in fact, it must not have even been five minutes. it
was noticeable by his expression that the news took him by surprise, and he was not going
to accept this any time soon. he had left an obol under her tounge, as he did not wish for
her to be stranded, and with nothing to pay charon with. typically this would be done
just before burial, but he would not be here for it. he had already payed a messenger
to go in search for her family and tell them one thing: iason would find chryseis.

the man shot iason a look, as if he thought iason had gone mad. he was too overwhelmed to
notice such a look, however. it wasn't until now that iason began to wonder if the messanger
took him seriously or not. if the man doesn't send the message, the family will have iason's
head when they discovered he left chryseis's body there to rot. his only hope now was to
find the nearest way to the underworld to retrieve his beloved. maybe then the family
will accept him. they may have allowed chryseis to choose him, but that didn't mean
they enjoyed his company one bit.

consumed in thought, the thief who stood at his feet could have easily stolen even his
clothes, and iason would not have noticed. however, it was the sound of a body that hit
the ground that alarmed him. iason turned to find a pair of brown startled eyes, that
winked in order to hide their actions. the girl scrambled to her feet faster than iason
could react, and headed for a more crowded area. she was sly, but now that he had
noticed, his pouch felt lighter than before. stupid girl, he told himself as he started
after her. iason was a fast runner, but it was the amount of people that delayed his
progress. perhaps she wasn't "stupid" -- just a rat. "theif!" iason cried, immediately
causing an uproar among the surrounding people. he was nearer to her now, and he
attempted to grab her by the shoulder, but failed and continued after her.

CHRYSEIS KAYA
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

the way in which she left was so abrupt, she wish she had more time to say goodbye to
iason, and to apologize for not telling him earlier. but then again, no one truly decides
how one leaves the upperworld but the gods. one can hope, and one can plead, but rarely
does one die in the way they wish they did. however, chryseis doubted she would find the
ability to forget the hurt expression on her husband's face before her string was cut, nor
would she be able to forgive herself for causing such pain. with her, iason was always
grinning, and this expression was not one she was ready to see.

chryseis never had a certain way of imagining the underworld. she always said she'd find out
when she died, and this was perhaps the root of her confusion as she entered. she was the
only one who took the time to gaze at the white gates around her, as the other souls blankly
stared at nothing in particular infront of them. perhaps it was also the fact that she wished
to speak with persephone, as her only wish was that iason would live a longer life than hers.
persephone would soften hades, and surely he'll give her some sort of condition. no matter.
she perhaps act as their servant, as she was always good at cleaning. besides, it would be
better than to be in the fields, with nothing to do than think of iason.

there was a man weaving in between the spirits. his complexion told her he was well alive,
but his eyes had the same dead stare as everyone else. she didn't think it was hades, as such
a man would not tolerate the chattering of spirits so close to his ears. but then -- who is it?

_________________________________________________________________

Meg pushed past people, ducking under baskets and around street corners. She could hear the shouts of the crowd as the man called after her, his voice angry. Usually they aren't this persistent, she thought, pausing a moment to catch her breath. This pause was almost the death of her, or at least the death of her thievery. Almost. Meg ducked away just as the man's hand appeared next to her shoulder. Glancing behind her as she began to run, Meg doubled her speed, running into an alleyway and against a wall. The coins in her hand weren't many, were they even worth this chase? You should stop him, and give them back, she thought, shifting the golden drachmas around in her palm.

She could hear the hurried footsteps behind her, and waited, deciding against running some more. As she heard the man draw close to her hiding place, Meg stepped out, her hands on her hip. "You know, you really should keep a closer eye on your coins," she said nonchalantly, dropping her prizes in the dust as though nothing had even happened. She had always found that the best way to shrug off anger was to pretend as though the crime had not been a crime at all, but a mere test of wit. The success rate of this venture didn't prove to be that high, but, Meg found, it usually depended on the person.

And this guy looked, well, he looked sad. He probably had too much on his mind to really care about prosecuting a simple street girl. "Please excuse my slippery fingers," she said, kneeling down to pick up the dropped coins. She courteously placed them in his hand, curling his fingers around the money. "I suppose I should be going. Keep watching for those thieves, and well, uh, bye." Nodding her head and winking, Meg slipped back into the alley, hoping he would leave it at that and she could get back to her journey. She'd have to find money elsewhere, and this time not get caught.

_________________________________________________________________

Jason passed his hands through the ghostliness of the crowd around him, watching as the gates creaked open to allow another wave of spirits to enter. Among these new arrivals shone a light brighter than any Jason had ever seen. She searched back and forth, wringing her hands together as though thinking, concocting a plan. He had never seen a spirit look so, well alive. Jason immediately made his way towards the young woman. If her energy and restlessness made it to the others, the others might mistake her for being still alive. The spirits didn't mind the consciousness of the gods, but when an actual living mortal entered the underworld, the spirits got angry.

"Spirit, you are safe now. You are entering Asphodel; you needn't worry as much as you obviously are," he said, placing a hand on her shoulder. It was warm and soft, a sensation Jason was not used to since being confined to the underworld and away from his Megaera. "Please, what must I do to cool your grief?" he said, leading her apart from the already agitated mass of spirits. A few of the ghouls around the edges of the gates hissed at a spirit so far from the general area, but Jason calmed them with a hand. They daren't argue with the son of Lord Hades. A hooded man approached Jason and the shining spirit, pulling Jason aside before the girl could really answer his question.

"My lord, there has been word from above. This one must be kept under lock and key. Someone in the upper world has a mind to come after her. He sent a messenger to her family this morning," the ferryman whispered, his sightless eyes blazing with a cool fire.

"Right, Charon. Thank you for informing me," Jason turned away from the man and back to the girl. "Follow me, if you will," he said, taking her hand and leading her off the path to Asphodel.

[ sorry, little inspiration this evening. quq ]

IASON-LINOS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

he followed her as she turned into an alley. if she continued to run, he would have to let
her be. she would only be taking him out of his way, and he would have to find another
way there. iason would have never ran after her, but he did not pack much for his
voyage, and he needed to hold on to every little thing he had. in the case something
ran out, he needed those coins to buy them. one coin short, and he won't be given it.

"in this neighborhood, there is no need to watch coins. we have noble thoughts,
we do not steal. clearly, you are not from here."
her attitude confused him, as she
acted so careless of it. none the less, she had touched his coins, and was clearly panicked
when she fell. regardless, iason figured she must have had her own reasons for doing it.
perhaps she had a family, or was also on some sort of quest. besides, the death of iason's
beloved was still too recent to bother turning the woman in.

"hold on." iason called after her. perhaps she, too, would look at him as if he was mad,
but his decision of leaving was made based on the heat of the moment. he knew a route
to one of the five rivers that led to the underworld, but iason was not sure if it was
necessarily the quickest way there. "you don't happen to know a way to the underworld,
by any chance -- do you?"
if she did, hopefully it would be a shorter one.

CHRYSEIS KAYA
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

"but sir, i am not worried, i simply--" chryseis cut herself off, unsure whether or not to
tell this man. this couldn't possibly be hades, the man the entire empire lived in fear of.
but the way he hushed the ghouls with only the wave of his hand meant he was of some
importance. perhaps it would be a useful thing to have him on her side. "my father never
included your name in his stories. you are not hades, i can see that. but then, who
are you?"
she had hoped for a response, but the same hooded figure that brought her
here approached them. charon whispered something in the man's ear, barely audible
from where chryseis stood. she heard "my lord", but that was the extent of what she
could pick up. so he did have some sort of high status here in the underworld. now,
what exactly that status was, chryseis was not certain.

the man grabbed her hand, leading her in the wrong direction. she feared what he
might do to her, but then realized it didn't matter. besides, she was, technically,
dead. she realized in the brief moment that she looked down at her hand, that she
wasn't the same color she was moments prior to her death. her complexion had
returned to her. that same olive complexion that she was born with. as long as
she was down here, she wouldn't be ill. goods soul like hers deserved such a thing.
it perplexed her, however. the other souls looked far different from her own, and
though chryseis had not seen her own face, the man had came up to her for a reason.
that reason had to be that chryseis still looked alive. surely he doesn't think that
i am an intruder.
she thought only to comfort herself, as those mortals who dared
enter were usually punished, and chryseis did not wish to be punished for injust reasons.

"why do i still look alive?" she inquired at last. "i died only a few minutes ago by
illness, shouldn't i be looking like them?"

_________________________________________________________________

Meg scowled as he played the 'noble neighborhood card.' Yeah, right. Because everyone in the world was so 'goody-goody.' She crossed her arms, looking the man up and down for the first time. He was tall, with the characteristic olive skin of an Athenian and the dark hair and eyes. She had to admit, he was handsome, but obviously in mourning. But what for? Meg considered running off again, but froze when he asked about the underworld.

Staring at him with one eyebrow raised, Meg placed her hands on her hips, ignoring the people pushing past them in her incredulity. "So what if I did? What would I get for helping you?" she asked, trying not to show her actual curiosity. The truth was, she didn't know exactly where to look to find Jason. She knew where he might be, and she knew that the entrance was in the mountains somewhere, probably along the river. But she didn't know where to start. If he was looking, perhaps he knew something. If they could help each other out, it would be even better. But Meg had to act as though she didn't need his help, and only he needed hers.

Pulling the man into the alley and away from the people, she pulled out one of her throwing knives and started to run her fingers along the blade. "It just so happens that I'm headed that way myself. If you were to tag along, I wouldn't say no to a few drachmas," she said slyly, looking up at his desperately sad eyes. She tucked the knife back into her cloak and crossed her arms, looking up at him expectantly. The day was warm, but not unbearably so, and a slight breeze blew across Meg's shoulders, which were uncovered beneath a classic white peplos. Her skin, slightly lighter than the average Athenian glistened in the summer heat, not with sweat, but more with a healthy glow.

    { bleeeh just not very inspired with this scene right now xc maybe once they get adventuring and stuff it will be better }

⋆ Jason Ere
child of Hades ⋆ eurydice ⋆ going to hades's palace ⋆ chryseis

"I am Jason Ere, son of Hades and god of grief and recovery." Jason smiled slyly. "Believe me, I know Jason isn't a very 'godly' name. But it's kind of a recent development." He continued to lead her up an alternate path. Soon, a large palace made from dark stone and silver came into view, its gate shining with ghostly torches. They weren't quite burning, but more glowing. They provided light, but the light was dim, and not exactly warming. Jason watched as the young woman looked around. She was definitely dead; Jason could sense such things, but she was still searching for...something. And who was missing her so much that she required special attention?

"You still look alive, my dear, because you are not yet finished in the world above. Simply put, you left too soon," Jason said, leading her past some of the ghouls on guard. They hissed at the spirit, but did nothing to incite Jason's wrath, and let the pair pass without harm. "What I need to know, my shining one, is why you shine. I have not seen a spirit as bright as you for many years. Who seeks you so in the upperworld? And also, what may I call you?" Jason was genuinely curious, and, though he hated to admit it, jealous. It was obvious she had someone who loved her and missed her. Jason himself had no one of the sort. He wondered vaguely if his dear Megaera missed him just as much, but then pushed the thought from his mind. He shouldn't waste his time thinking of that which he could not have.

As they neared the great obsidian doors, Jason stopped, placing a hand on the glowing spirit's shoulder. "When we enter the lord's palace, you must not engage him in conversation. You much not view him in his pure form. Stay silent while I lead you through, and watch my feet for guidance."
