how do you write the death of a really good character?


I'm not sure how exactly, I let my fingers do the work with a sad playlist going.I might say one thing is for sure, make sure they died for a reason other then to die.

How do you make it dramatic?

appeal to the senses and really put myself in the situation so that i can write about it, detail, but not so much that it draws out. Really, i'm not good with drama, i'm working on it XD

Dont have a fave, so i will use just one of my faves..

The air was crisp and cold on Laurels face, even as her cheeks where red and hot and her eyes releases fresh and warm tears. She ran, oh how she ran as hard and fast as her legs could carry her. It took only a second for the arrow to pierce his chest, yet seemingly a decade for her to reach him as he landed harshly into the snow. Laurels shaking hands quickly pressed onto the around around the arrow as she drew him closer with her other hand, cradling his head.

"Laurel...did you get hit too?" He whispered.

"No...No, you stopped it..Avery you stopped it." she took a shaky breath as she spoke.

"Thats great..." He smiled, lifting his large hand and placing it over her hand that pressed into his wound.

If he felt pain, he made no note of it. Not when he knew how little time he had, he wouldn't waste that time in pain so he pushed it in a box and shoved it down deep in side while staring up at her paling face.

"Dont send me off with that frown, Lara." Avery frowned.

"I am not sending you off!" she snapped and held his head tighter. "they will come and help us, they will."

"Smile for me." Avery commanded weakly.

The scent of blood was wafting up though Laurels nose, it was making her sick and the tease wouldn't stop, but she forced a smile anyway.

"A real smile..." Avery said taking his arm and grabbing her neck.

"If i smile...you will think you can leave me..."she sniffled.

with the last bit strength he brought her head down and smiled. "bye...." almost as though on Que, his hand went limp and fell. His heart as slowed, then stopped.

She knew and she lowered her forehead to his sobbing in the night air while the wind whistled with the snow covering the fresh red surrounding the girl with sapphire eyes.

It's okay. It was generally to everyone but I decided I need to enforce rules more.

I raise my keg of mead high in the air as I bellow a boisterous version of a lullaby, swaying and accidentally spilling food in my afore mentioned beard.

how do you write the death of a really good character?
I like to make it sad, and possibly make the readers cry.

How do you make it dramatic?
Adding something to it, like them saving someone, or their love near by. (I don't usually write romance, but I like to add some.) adding lots of detail about them and others interacting makes it sadder.

"You can see her now, but be quick." Mark looked up. The doctor was calling him in. He nodded, and went to see his mother. She had cancer, and didn't have long to live. A lump rose in his throat when he saw her. She was once a strong and beautiful woman. But now, lying on a hospital bed, she looked small and frail. Her once blond hair was shaved off.
"Mark?" She called. He stepped up.
"I'm here mama." He said. She smiled,
"Look after you sister." She whispered, "she won't know me like you." Mark nodded, holding back tears. He sister, Mary was only 3.
"I will mama." She nodded, and lay back on the pillow.
"Good bye, Mark." She whispered. "I'm sure I'll see you in heaven." Mark stifled a sniff, this was too much for a ten year old.
"Mama-" he began, but she smiled and lay back. "No! Mama!" Mark cried, "no!" He ran to her, but the doctor put a hand on his shoulder.
"It's to late, lad," he said,"she's gone." At those words, the tears he had been holding back finally came.
