Barrel Racing Level I Results

Postby SydneyandStorm » Sun Jan 11, 2015 4:00 pm

The barrel racing competition lasted all day, filled with friendly competition and happy laughter. But the fun didn't stop the anxiety that gnawed at each competitor's heart at least once before their run, reminding them all of what exactly was at stake. Even the fact that it was a low level competition couldn't appease their understandable pre-run panic -- but as it is with every true horseman and woman, the moment they tore off towards the first barrel, the butterflies were replaced with overwhelming trust in their faithful mounts.

Daemon and his rider were the first to run, and although Daemon's naughty side kicked in on the stretch before the finish, they really did very well. The quarter horse had done his best, and everyone could see that; no one could be prouder than his loving owner.

Wilbur was next, and despite the startled and delighted cries of the spectators who had never seen a Fjord barrel racing before (and were certain he'd never be able to make it through), that stallion dug his feet into the dirt and pulled a fantastic run, much to the surprise of those watching. Only a couple minutes after they had exited the arena, Vivian actually had someone come up to her and offer their car in exchange for Wilbur -- of course, she didn't even have to think about it before politely turning them down.

Ace looked like a fish out of water among all the other competitors, standing 17 hands with a distinctly thoroughbred skinniness. That didn't stop him, however, and though the turns proved to be the slightest bit tricky, he made up for it with his natural speed.

Pollux, though too young to actually run, was thoroughly drooled over by little kids who had always wanted a black stallion. His amiable nature lent itself well to all of their attention, and by the time they had to go, Delph had to practically peel three little cowgirls off of Pollux's legs. All of their attention coupled with the sights, sounds, and smells of the horse show did have a bit of an effect on him, however, and he earned +1 in training from the whole experience.

By the end of the day, the winners had been announced, and all congratulated each other with smiles and jokes. It had been a fun show -- no one could wait to do it again!

Congratulations to the following:
In first place, Ace of Hearts.
In second place, Winters Summit.
In third place, Daemon.

I'll be adding your prize money to your accounts shortly ^^

herro der mes amis, i am believe. proud canadian, ottb loving, colt breaking, nfr dreaming. pictured on the left is my racetrack reject, landofmakebelieve, aka molly, moo, shmoo, whatever name comes to mind x] molly is a 10 year old canadian bred thoroughbred mare, and standing at about 16.2hh, we look a little wonky when we chase cans, but la dee da that's alright. molly and i tried several disciplines. i tried desperately to get her to catch on to dressage, but unfortunately, she still has the race bred mind and is all go. however, together we found a discipline which we could both enjoy; western gaming. this summer we started travelling to barrel races locally. our current record on a standard size pattern is 17.314 and we are improving with every run. and to all the low budget barrel racers out there such as myself, a word of advise; chin up darling. you may not have a million dollar mount under your butt, but you and your crossbred, rejected, hard headed, rescue baby can do it. you know why? cause those girls sitting in their custom circle y's, upon shiny, top of the line mounts are full of themselves. they think there's no way they can lose. they get cocky. stay humble, believe in yourself, in your horse, and most importantly ride your little heart out.
