What is your least favourite character to write?
Animals that own the same mental capacity as humans, but within the story are viewed by people exactly as they are in reality today. It brings up too many contradictions.
What do you think of the word 'said'?
It's necessary- and fine so long as it isn't used too often.
What's your favourite flaw to give one of your characters?
Lazy. It always makes it interesting to force them into different situations where doing nothing is absolutely not a choice. They're reluctant heroes. X)
edit: Also, having characters with cruelty/lack of sympathy, pride, arrogance, or narcissism is always fun. I really enjoy writing villains as well, actually. Their perspective is so interesting, and as per the great saying goes "every villain is the hero of their own story."
Quick! You have ten minutes to write a (small) scene about a character called Raymond!
As Raymond collapsed onto the wet cement of the darkened ally, panting and gasping in air, he couldn't hear anything past the sound of his own beating heart. His lungs ached with every breath, his legs exhausted and sore from running. He gradually became aware of the watering of his eyes, the tears that were blurring the edges of his vision and preparing to spill out. He sucked in another despeate breath, the exhale turning into a choked sob as the images of his dead parents entered his mind. Whenever he blinked, he could see them there, bodies torn and bloody below the horrific from of a creature.
Ten minutes ago, the world had been normal, still. He'd been sitting at his parent's dinner table, as per his usual weekly visit, talking about mundane things such as wars overseas, familiy gossip, and taxes. Now, they would never talk about any of those things again. He could hardly even imagine it, now. All he was left with was death, chaos, and a city filled with monsters. He blinked again against the stinging in his eyes, ice flooding through his veins as a shrill, shireking roar echoed through the streets. Another one was coming.
//Oops, scene is messy, perhaps cliche, and completely not finished. Ah, well. T'was fun, and if anyone would like I can continue it and stuff, though I'll have to rewrite it a little. C:
