Update; Im giving away Zander, who after a short period of time, I've noticed is a she. Since they were all feeder rats (and honestly, Zander was kind of my favourite so far), she will be going to a family that has owned rats before that lives in my complex. And she will be well taken care of, now known as Frodo.

Kiwi is going back to the pet store, because I have reason to believe he is sick... I let them run around on my bed for a bit; North and Frodo(Zander) were running around and playing and investigating me and their surroundings and chittering their teeth, but Kiwi seemed disoriented, wasn't really interested in anything, and just kinda... Didn't do much. I've also discovered he has diarrhea. So I'll be returning him, and getting another two HEALTHY BOYS.

So much for my perfect three :(

Meet Zander! He's black on the top, white on the underbelly. Trying to figure out what kind of coat colour he is. He is the most friendly so far, he likes to crawl around on my lap and he's cleaned himself a lot. He also likes to eat his litter for some reason.

Meet Kiwi! Kiwi is the most skittish of the three. He's brown on top with a cream/white underbelly. Trying to figure out what coat colour he is, too. He's going to need a lot of socialization.

Meet North! He's the smartest (he's the only one who figured out the three-tier so far). He's still got yet to get used to my touch as well. Still trying to figure out his colouring, as well.

they're so cute! Zander is a chocolate/black Berkshire, kiwi is an agouti self and north is an agouti capped, hope that helps!:-)

animals are not toys, nor are they expendable.
you have a young rodent, which you have named, taken into your home, and effectively made into your pet, and your responsibility, and you want to send him back to the shop where he will likely be either picked up as a feeder or outright discarded by its staff... because he has the craps. and then replace him, because he has the craps.
would you have decided to keep and tend to him if you'd had him for more than a month before he got sick, or would you just abandon him anyway regardless of whether you'd bonded or not?
if he came from the same place as the other two and they aren't showing any issues, then he's stressed, not sick. and on the off chance that he is having enough of a problem to pass away from it, then atleast have the decency to let him pass in a home instead of a feeder bin. he's deserves atleast some level of respect.

Whoa, relax. I've already been told that it was probably from stress, and im happy to say he's upbeat and exploring in his new home.
IF he had actually been sick, I would have gone back and said hey, I've got a sick rat. I'd like to exchange it for a healthy one so my other rats don't get sick. Which, I think is rather reasonable?
If I had kept him for a month then I probably would have taken him to the vet. Because that means he most likely got sick because of something that I did, and not the pet store. So it's my responsibility to make him better, as I was the one who caused it.

Believe me, im the last person to discard an animal for a pitiful reason. I do not believe in doing so, because I agree. That pet, that you chose, is relying on you to care for it, because it cannot care for itself without your help.
Im getting a darn tattoo because people discard fish all the time, so im getting a fish around my ankle and when people ask why, I can educate them.
Please do not accuse me of not caring about my animals, thank you.

On the other hand...
This is their cage! I spent 5 hours straight (yes, that's right. I took no breaks) covering it with hardware cloth so they would be safe, and wouldn't get out.
Frodo is in her new home, with a new friend who is also female, in a nice sized cage.
The new (and true) Zander, is super cute. I couldn't get a picture today but maybe tomorrow.
I have reason to believe he is the brother of Frodo. Since they are both around the same size (slightly younger and smaller than the other rats in the tank), and they were the only black and white ones in there, all the others were dove and white/or brown/champagne.
Of course I won't know for sure, but that's what I think. It seems very plausible, at the least.

They have figured out the top and second tier... That's it. Can't seem to figure out the other two tiers. Oh well, they'll figure it out eventually!

My boys took a while to figure out the upper levels of their cages (both their first cage and the double critter nation). They'll figure it out in time :) Just make sure you have food and water on the levels they have already figured out (I actually have two water bottles on my cage, one on the bottom and on the upper most level).

I spent about 3 hours on their first cage, the majority of that being covering the wire shelves and decorating it, and waaaay longer setting the DCN up, that took ages, haha.

Cage looks great, though!

So now you have North and Zander, right? Just going to warn you (though I'm sure you've considered it), if they were in the same bin and one of them seemed ill, you'll want to keep a very close eye on these two. Take note of breathing, water and food intake, defecation and urination, etc. It's likely worth a visit to the closest exotic vet just to have them checked up and have their lungs listened to, and weight checked.
Reality is subjective.
