When a d∞med timeline is d8ubled back 8n and c8rrected, the s8uls 8f the 8nes wh8 died in that timeline remain in the fream bubbles.

I think they're s8rt 8f like a reminder system f8r that same stuff t8 n8t happen again.

But that's why there are s8 many Karkats and Nepetas and Aradias in the dream bubbles; they're all fr8m d∞med timelines.
