What being American means to me is being proud of who you are and being proud of the country you live in . It doesn't matter what color your skin is or if you weren't originally born in the US, if you are proud to live in America then you are an American . If you believe in and are proud of our troops and the history our country then you can be called a true American . To be an American I don't think that you have to be born in the country or live here for most of you life, if you stand on US soil and believe in the country you are a true "American" .
