On the cover of the leather-bound album was a photo more precious to Dianthus than anything the world could offer. It was faded now, scratches running across the once glossy surface like claw marks. Tearstains diluted grinning faces and wilted autumn leaves. It was the family portrait, taken back when Dia was four and too young to understand that leaves were meant to be raked, not scattered everywhere. He slipped the candid photo from beneath the film and held it with trembling fingers, wondering where he'd gone wrong and who he'd upsetted to lose such happier times.

Dianthus was the Olivine family's first-born and so he held the highest expectations. Imperfection wasn't a choice he could have. There was never really a choice in the first place. He was taught to hide his opinion, for he was told it didn't matter anyways, and to respect all elders no matter the circumstances. He was expected to have exemplary marks on his schoolwork and to hold an air of elegance around others. His mother cared much for reputation and left Dia with no space to make mistakes. One clumsy fall or bad grade equals a harsh scolding and a swift strike to the cheek. She was manipulating and ill-tempered, often furious at things that had nothing to do with him. He was her punch bag with a muzzle and no one heard his cries for in school he disappeared into the shadows. Dianthus gathered little attention from others aside

And as the waters of insecurity began to flood his brain, he realized

You approach a boulder in the crystal cave and notice a vague door shape carved into the rock. Before you could question how such a thing could form, it opens and a clawed hand drags beckons you inside. Bewildered, you gingerly step inside. Suddenly, a finger is on your lips. A lilting voice tells you to shush before you could protest and then you notice...the eyes. They're piercing but strangely, it doesn't seem like they're looking at you. You've heard many things about the alledged witch but...she's...blind?

She begins to speak after an awkward silence, her face coming into view.
