I feel that this pony was meant to be a light-hearted addition to the reindeer litter so it wasn't designed to be very elaborate ( except for the cute little olive mark). It's too bad the joke fell flat for so many people here.... I for one was tickled when I saw the outcome.

When a pet is signaled out from the litter like this one was, you generally expect it to be, well, more impressive-- or at least more special than the rest of the litter in some way.
I'd hazard to say that the foxes are more well-liked than ponies. The foxes are newer pets, and have received a rather warm welcome from the site at large. All of the foxes from this litter are rather neat in their own way, and the PPS is absolutely precious. Several of the foxes look like good time and energy went into their markings. I'm particularly fond of the day 2, 6, and 7 growths.
The pony, in comparison to some of the foxes, seems rushed and boring. The tail is different, but besides that, there's nothing much to it. It's a random pony that was thrown into a litter of foxes that it doesn't exactly match up to. The different starting growth made the pony seem exciting and different, but its final result was.... lackluster. It left a lot to be desired.
I do like the foxes of this litter, and I have loved many other pets from this event. It is very clear that a lot of time and effort went into the pets of this event (just look at all of the deer!)
Overall, there isn't much to complain about with this event-- in fact, there's plenty more to praise rather than criticize. We received a lot of nice pets and items, and I'm sure the artists had to work their tails off to make sure that happened. I'll praise the staff to high hell on their great work during this event-- the cute polar bear PPS, the stunning winged dragon horse, the well-drawn fluffy horse and pony, the GORGEOUS snow leopards, the adorable hamsters, the MANY DEER (cannot get over how many were made), the precious winter items--
but I will not praise something that I dislike or feel was done poorly.

It would also have helped if the movie or story this pony was based off of was better known. I had no idea why I had a random pony in there, and still don't know who Oliver is or what the big deal is about it being so special. Compared to the rest of the litter it was sorta.. blah.

I absolutely adore the Olive pony.
I have not seen the movie or read the story and I like the outcome purely on its aesthetic. The tail edit is gorgeous, its colour as an olive dun is spot on, and i love the expression.
Guys, you have to remember that the hype wasn't the artist's fault - the theories flying about about it being Ruldolph or Santa or whatever were NOT CREATED BY THE ARITST. They were created by the people on this page making a theory. It's not the artists's fault that people started expecting something "amazing" and are "let down" by the pony. This outcome was created just like any other.
Your disappointment is perhaps warranted, but please don't blame the artist. Blame the community for the hype, if you must blame someone, but please be aware that the artist will (and probably has) read these posts, so please meter yourself if you don't want to make them feel bad about themselves.

It's not really based on the movie/story, it's based on a pun. "All of the other reindeer, used to laugh and call him names..." Say 'all of' out loud it's sounds like 'olive'. But since the movie/story was also based around that pun, some users like thinking of the pony as that.
