━━━━━━━━━━
She could hear the sounds of the battle from her rooms.

The morning had started quiet enough. The sun had awoken her long before any servants had ventured into her chambers to pull back her curtains and as such Elyana had dressed herself. It did not happen often, not with her handmaids waiting on her at every turn, or her ladies in waiting following her every move. As such, the Queen had taken her time, allowing herself to pick and change her dress and the jewelry to match, including the long diamond ear rings and diamond pendant she finally settled on. They had been a wedding gift long ago from her husband and were, frankly, one of the most beautiful sets she owned. In the sunlight they looked almost like tiny blocks of ice, with the light refracting through them against her pale skin. I am the ice queen and winter is coming for the elves. She thought, her own voice ringing like steel inside her mind as she regarded herself in her mirror.

Tilting her chin up, the queen allowed her lips to curl into a delicate smirk. She might be a woman, but she was a queen and she had other ways to fight than on the battlefield. All around her was resources and man who had no choice but to follow her orders unless they wished to be branded as traitors. Elyana knew she had ways to get into the elvish kingdom, she could send someone inside if she wanted to, she could pay an assassin to sneak into Cymbiir if she really wished to kill King Levos. That would put an end to this war and send the elves into chaos. They might even think one of their own did it and bring themselves to their destruction. And how nice that would be. Elyana could see it now, but... No. If she tried it once and it failed she would not be able to try again; Levos would place guards around himself at all times, she was not going to have that happen. Better to draw him out into the field himself and get someone to kill him. They could dress as an elven soldier and no one on the opposing side would know. One day, she would be Queen of Eelyria, not just Verbroné.

Light was flickering outside her window. It shouldn't have been, this was day, not night with a fire. Knitting her eyebrows together, the queen rose to her feet from her seat and placed her crown on the top of her head, right in front of her bun. Only a simple hairstyle for the day, but elegant. Her doeskin slippers were silent on her plush carpet floor as she headed over to her balcony door. She would get a good view of what was going on from there.

When she saw, Elyana knew what she had to do. Whipping around, the queen strode across her room and opened her door. Outside were two guards, standing stock still and staring at the opposite wall as if they couldn't hear what was going on outside. Her husband had insisted on them, and just to shut him up and make him feel like he was in charge she had accepted. But she had no fear. "One of you insolent fools," she ordered in a silvery voice, smiling gently, "get down to that skirmish. There is a direwolf there: kill it. Tell Raoden to take elves hostage. I want to know why we are being attacked." One of the guards, the younger one, gave her a nod, bowed, and headed on his way. Elyana would go down herself, but she was no fool. It was not worth the risk. As soon as the fighting was over she would head down. Right now, she wanted to break her fast. Stopping a servant who was walking past, Elyana requested a meal of bread, cheese and a goblet of wine. While she waited one of her handmaiden's entered and moved her table and seat onto the balcony. It was nice to eat out in the sun and she could see the fighting from here. Raoden would have no excuse if he did not turn up at her quarters as soon as the fighting was done.

ELWEN LUNA
elven warrior - 50+ - Nature magic
near the human stronghold - with Jason

{This is more of a post for Drago... So he's with Faelyn and Raoden}

Whimpering, Drago tried to get to his paws, only falling down. He was badly burned and he lied down, whimpering loudly as he felt it sting his skin. He snarled, daring the she - elf to come near him as he snarled and bared his teeth, and his ears pinned. He got to his paws, but was low to the ground as he stood. He debated which hurt more, the cuts, the arrows or the burns. The pain was decreasing now, and he tensed himself so it was less felt. Yet, standing to his full height would hurt way to much. Realizing his pain, and then trying to ignore it again, he felt himself grumble with boiling anger, much more than all the pain combined.

Managing to stand at full height, he was weak, but still packed a punch if he used his strength correctly. Thinking it out, he dropped low, and lunged past her, hitting her with his flank and being sure he hit her with all his body, he was sure she'd fall. That was half a mistake, and half a success. He had burns on his side now, and they were quicker, and were a little much of a skim , and they weren't bad, just sizzling some fur. He had to be sure that he knocked her over, and he was pretty sure, hitting her with all his weight. Now he was far past Raoden, and looking directly at the guard coming for him. He knew he was much to weak to fight anymore.. And he was alone without Elwen.

The large black dire wolf bared his teeth at the oncoming danger, and started to step back from them, farther. 'I thought we were under their protection! Ah, I should have known.' His mind flooded with thoughts as he growled deeply, snapping his jaws at Raoden, snarling 'Liar! Liar!' The growls meant, and he pinned his ears back, glaring at the captain. Picking up a nearby sword, the wolf readied himself as he stood his ground. Faelyn wouldn't help him, and Raoden had lied.. He was alone in this battle, and way to weak to fight guards, he'd be cut down before he knew, but something in him gathered strength and he snarled, at both Raoden and at the oncoming guards.

Arahaelil stormed out of the palace, her cloak billowing behind her. She walked straight past her father and towards the gates, her hair crackling merrily. The guards hurried to get out of her way. They knew that when she was angry like she was now, it was best to hide and not be in her way--or even seen by her.

They had learned the hard way the first--and last--time they had tried to stop her when she was in a rage like this. She had burned--mostly accidentally--a fair few of the guards (who had quit after the incident), but the rest had learned to stay out of the way. The new guards that had been hired had been told the story, and after a near replica of the incident, they believed it.

She walked straight through the gate, the guards quickly moving out of her way. She held her head high as she headed into the forest, heading towards her favourite tree. Maybe this time I'll stay out for weeks, she thought savagely, her thoughts muddled and angry as she continued to think about all the ways she could make her mother worry or feel bad. Maybe I should ignore her presence for days on end. Passive aggressiveness. Something she always resolved to do, something she never actually managed to do.

She climbed up into a tree, lodging herself in between the branches. She took a couple of deep breaths. As she calmed down, the fire in her hair flickered and died, and the energy she had gotten from her anger vanished. Slowly a strong mix of feelings made up of remorse, guilt, and shame overcame her. I should stop getting angry. I must look like a child! Also, I hate this feeling afterwards. Why can't I just get control of myself? She sighed, looking out towards the east, trying to distract herself from her roiling emotions.

Jason continued to work on the string. When he was satisfied with it's quality, he rubbed in the special wax he kept for bowstrings. Finally he strung the mahogany bow to test it. It was holding. Pleased, he lifted it up carefully before drawing it back, being extremely careful not to dry fire.

Happy with how it had turned out, he carefully put the bow down onto the table. He'd have to test it out with arrows, but with the battle going on... He didn't really have a death-wish. He attached a tag to the bow with some string before writing out 75 lbs drawback--mahogany--recurve with a nearby quill and hanging the bow up onto the nearby bow rack. He poked his head out of the tent and looked around. What he saw shocked him. The elf lady was bleeding from almost all over, and yet she was still fighting. A wolf held a sword in it's jaws, and seemed confused.

He didn't know wolves could be confused. He returned to the tent before speaking, rather quietly, to Elwen.

"The situation looks stressful," he announced. "There's an elf who's bleeding really badly, but she's still fighting Raoden. Um... Your wolf looks really confused... And he's holding a sword..." He trailed off. He liked it when his tent was alone, the silence wasn't awkward. But with a guest--well, technically prisoner, in this case--it needed to have sound in it, otherwise the silence felt heavy and awkward.

❀--Aria Mier
elf ❀ healer ❀ water ❀ Arahaelil
Aria dismounted Aeglos as she drew deeper into the forest towards Cymbiir. She wasn't quite ready to reenter the kingdom; the scenes from the ongoing battle were still fresh in her mind. Leaving Aeglos to graze on a patch of grass, Aria slumped down against a tree, trying to breathe deeply. As she did so, she caught a storage scene...smoke, was it?

Glancing upward, Aria saw a form nestled into the branches above her, tiny flames in her shiny auburn hair slowly fizzling out. Aria knew that hair, that flame. "Princess Ara?" she asked, looking quizzically towards the other elf. Aria seemed to recall that the princess often fled to the forest in times of discord with her family; it was what Aria would do, were she to be in the same position. "Is there something the matter?" she asked the princess, trying not to come off as impertinent. Aria had never really talked to royalty before, and didn't quite have a gauge on Arahaelil's temperament. What if she thinks I'm being disrespectful? Aria thought worriedly.

Climbing the tree, Aria made sure her spider-silk thin gown didn't catch on the leaves as she made her way to face the other elf. As with Faelyn earlier that day, Aria found that speaking about one's troubles was the easiest way to forget them, and, especially with fire elves, the easiest way to cool down. Aria herself was often calm and collected; these fire elves were going to be the death of her!

➸--Raoden Marx
human ➸ captain of the guard ➸ Faelyn
Raoden's eyes widened as the wolf dragged Faelyn to the ground, ripping and tearing at her pale skin. Who's side is this wolf on? he thought wildly as he contemplated what to do. Drawing his sword, Raoden tried to get between the wolf and the elf; no one deserved to be attacked by such a vicious animal. But the creature was too strong, and it seemed to have a mind of its own. "Someone shoot that wolf! he yelled, trying to get close enough to do something without being torn to shreds himself.

Out of the corner of his eye, Raoden saw a burst of flame and blood, and ducked out of the way just in time to dodge a burning swing from Faelyn. Shielding his eyes from the heat and light, he looked to her, panic in his eyes. "If we don't do something about her wolf, both of us will unnecessarily lose men! Is that what you want?" he yelled over the roar of the battle. The canine was a force that couldn't be stopped, not without collaboration over sides. They deal with the rogue warrior, and then they could get back to duking it out. But the more Raoden thought about it, the more he realized that this battle was all focused on that wolf. They wouldn't even be here today if the she-elf hadn't helped the wolf, who seemed to have an agenda all its own, break into his fortress.

"Look," Raoden said, keeping his sword between Faelyn and himself, in case she decided to attack without listening to his words. Battle raged on around them, and the canine sat growling and snarling at all in his path. "If we can deal with this dog, you can take Luna, and we'll avoid unnecessary casualties." Raoden didn't know much about Faelyn, besides that she was an awesome force on the battle field. But he knew that she was a captain like himself, meaning that she had a level head between her slim, fiery shoulders. Perhaps she would listen. Words often spoke louder than wanton chaos.

Faelyn snarled as she saw more guards pour out from the kingdom, they looked prepared to take on not the elves fighting them but herself and Drago. She barely had time to dodge Dragos attack as he knocked her over, Faelyn flew across the ground and groaned as she felt her already injuries shoulder crack. She sprung to her feet and As the Captain spoke she nodded in agreement. They had to kill this wolf because of Elwen's too kind heart they now were at a perilous battle. Her light went out and Faelyn took up a battle ready position next to Raoden. Tiredness and her injuries sapped at her strength and battle weariness seeped deeply into her bones. "You'll have to make the final blow, I..." She had to pause and lean heavily against her sword to catch her breath. Despite being quick to heal, if wounded enough and deep enough healing couldn't take place. And that had happened to Faelyn. She swore vulgar words trying to steady herself finally after a few moments she stood up straight ignoring the horrid pain and bleeding in her shoulder and attacked. She had already agreed to Raoden's proposal the moment she stood next to him. She made herald alight and ran past Drago to fend off the oncoming guards. If they were to kill Drago it would be a horrible death for him. Faelyn ducked and twirled her swords connecting with their flesh and metal and before long she had cut down the assassin guards. She turned back to Raoden and could feel herself slipping away by the second so she ran. She was a wildfire as she stood next to Raoden her body shaking with fatigue. "Do it quick and clean. If you mess this up I'll take Elwen back and then take your life." She snarled looking sadly at the dire wolf. He was so confused and so alone. If only you hadn't mortally

ELWEN LUNA
elven warrior - 50+ - Nature magic
in the human stronghold - with Jason

The blonde girl had her head down, and didn't lift it to look at him. "Faelyn'll last, and this is her next stop." Her voice was gentle and low "Get my weapons on the table, I'm leaving soon." Knowing herself she wouldn't let her weapons slip from her own grasp. She seemed to be rushed, and urged him to grab them and put them near her. Looking around with only her eyes, she pinpointed the sword and bow and arrow. Sighing she shook her head gently, she had known from the start Drago wouldn't live through the battle, but she hoped it be a honorable death by a human soldier or one of the elven guard. She had slipped a knife from her sleeve, and had already cut herself out, but she stayed there, knowing running wouldn't do her good. She awaited to be taken back and put the knife back in her sleeves.

The large wolf heard the conversation, he stood his ground and looked to the two then the guards coming. He snarled, his claws tensioning and his body was injured and weak. His ears dropped back as he held the sword and lashed his head at the two, the sword stiffly in his mouth. Snarling, he lashed his tail as he adjusted his paw to fight and be fleet footed. Something seemed to be in his facial expression that he knew what would come, and he hoped it to be faster than before. His snarls increased as they flew in the crevasse of his jaws that didn't touch the hilt. He knew Elwen would throw a fit when he died, and he started to walk forward, stiffly and wary as he bared his teeth at Raoden, then Faelyn.

Arahaelil was quite startled when Aria showed up. She glared venemously at the other, resolute to not speak. She stared off into the distance before her resolution broke.

"First of all, it's just Ara. No 'princess'ing me or any of that other stuff. Makes me think of my mother." The word was said quite angrily, a touch of her previous rage returning for a short bit of time. Her hair flickered slightly, but Arahaelil got a grip on it, forcing her unruly magic under her control.

"And secondly, my mother is the problem." She huffed angrily, trying to calm herself down (to little avail). "She always makes me so, so, angry, and afterwards I feel horrible for days. She's always like this, and she acts like I'm stupid or something. Does it look like I waltz towards the human border? Or maybe she thinks I'm unable to take care of myself. I wish she would just understand me! But no, I have to be her 'princess perfect' daughter." Ara huffed loudly, glaring at the tree as if it had done something wrong.

"U-uh, don't you think that's not a good idea? I mean, Raoden would have me executed if I help you get away, I mean, like, uh, I just don't think that's what I'm supposed to be doing with you... A-and your weapons are already on the table." Jason flushed, realizing how silly he sounded. I am so terrible at interacting with others, he thought with melancholy attached to his mental words.

"A-and, are you sure that woman--Faelyn--will continue on even in her state? Are you sure she's even Faelyn?" He asked nervously. Because if an elf could go on like that, bleeding profusely, well, the humans would be in a load of trouble in the war. He looked up from the table and looked at Elwen, then turned around to face the exit of the tent.

'Faelyn'll last, and this is her next stop.' That sentence rang in his head. And I'm somehow expected to stop her...? I don't think I'd be able to resist her... I mean, if that is the same person--elf--we're speaking about. He hid the worry he felt, looking around the tent for a weapon he could maybe use to defend himself. He wouldn't have to worry about the she-elf they had taken prisoner. She wouldn't be hurt by her own kind.

❀--Aria Mier
elf ❀ healer ❀ water ❀ Ara
Aira drew her knees up against her chest, assessing the situation. "I am Aria, a healer. You let your anger best you, your--Ara," Aria said softly, her eyes kind. So much anger was in the air today; it was messing with Aria's equilibrium. "You probably won't like hearing this, but your mother has a purpose in her actions. You are an intelligent young woman, and capable of defending yourself and not making hasty decisions I am sure, but she is your mother. She only has one of you, and she wishes greatly to protect you, princess or not." Aria wouldn't know much about mother-daughter relationships; she had never really had one. But she did know of toil between individuals, and was almost as good at healing it as she was at healing physical wounds.

"There is much tension in the land today, running tempers high. Perhaps if you think on both your actions and the actions of the queen, things will make more sense. It doesn't do to dwell on the past, but to look to the future--there is where peace will be found." Aria hummed to herself, picking at a leaf on the branch of the tree. This is peaceful, she thought to herself, smiling absentmindedly. I should climb trees more often.

The wind breezed through the branches of the great tree in which they were perched, bringing with it the sound of the battle. "As I said, much tension. I should be there, helping and healing. But I cannot stomach the sight of so much wanton violence. It makes me sick that I am so useless," she said sadly. "But I suppose one can never have all they wish for."

➸--Raoden Marx
human ➸ captain of the guard ➸ Faelyn; Drago
Nodding to Faelyn, Raoden circled around the wolf, trying not to provoke it further. Such a magnificent, intelligent animal, Raoden thought sadly. A shame at the destruction he has caused, and the consequences he must reap. Heeding Faelyn's threat of death upon mistake, Raoden slowly brought up his sword arm, eyeing Drago's own sword clamped firmly between his jaws. Stepping forward with a yell, Raoden lunged for Drago, his eyes sad. Blood stained the poor creature from his many wounds; Raoden knew he wouldn't last much longer, but to be the one to finish him off was still painful.

Raoden was a master swordsman; he flew with grace through the mess of guards and archers towards the animal, who was growling menacingly and brandishing the bloody sword. "Wolf! You have left me no choice. For your actions, you must die," he said, making eye contact with the animal. I'm talking to a wolf, Raoden thought as he charged the animal. What a strange day this has been. Swinging his blade, Raoden caught the animal in the side, tearing at his fur. That alone should have been enough to kill an animal of average size; however, Drago was huge, even by dire wolf standards, and had already taken a lot of similar blows. It would take more, surely, to finish him off. Alas, it needed to be done.

Dancing to the left, Raoden rolled forward and aimed once more for the canine, this time catching it in the legs and incapacitating it. As he moved in for the finishing blow, Raoden couldn't help but notice the fear and hatred and...acceptance? that sat in Drago's eyes. This animal was deep; it carried feeling that Raoden never thought capable of anyone besides elf or human. Perhaps this was Elwen he was staring at, Elwen he was about to plunge a sword into. The thought caused him to look away as he made the cut that would end the wolf's life.

A tear rolled down Raoden's cheek, as did with many of the lives he took, be it hunting kill or foe on the battle field. For this reason, many of his soldiers called him Raoden the Compassionate. The others laughed at him, saying it was weakness. But Raoden knew that every life, no matter how bloodstained or sorrowful, had purpose, and taking it was against everything that Raoden held morally acceptable. Turning back to Faelyn, Raoden growled, "Cease this madness and take your elf. Enough blood has been shed on this morning."

ELWEN LUNA
elven warrior - 50+ - Nature magic
in the human stronghold - with Jason

Out of Drago's chest, he howled deeply, it was cut short and he whimpered as he fell on his flank, his eyes glassed with death. Perhaps this was a good thing, and many said the last to go was hearing, and he heard what the man had said after, and before. 'Did he feel... bad?' Drago's last thoughts rumbled in his head as he whimpered, Blood drained out of his wounds, but he still had a few minutes. He shifted his head to the two, and whimpered in sorrow, looking at Faelyn with a threatening glance, then to Raoden with a nod, and his head retreated slowly to his chest, he closed his eyes and he felt, saw, heard... Nothing. The black fur was stained with blood, and the old wolf had been put down, and he had acted.. Grateful. Some would think it was because he was wounded, and it hurt bad to keep going... But that last nod was a thanks, this is what he'd been set out to do when he attacked here... Go back to his family, and stay with them for eternity. The wolf wondered why the man was sorrowful, he had Drago's thanks.

"I already have, I'm just awaiting to leave. Which I know is going to happen. Your not helping me, I did it on my own." Raising her un - bound hands, she wiggled her fingers and crossed her legs. Putting her hands in her lap she heard the howl, she put a hand over her mouth. Vines crawled up the tent, and around everything in it, and large pieces of grass grew. "Get. Out. Of. My. Way!" Her voice hadn't changed, but it much more aggressive, and she packed up. Putting the two swords on her back, she strapped them on, the her bow.. And her sword into it's sheath. The human was standing close to the exit, and she started to walk, pushing him out of her way, snaking vines followed her like wildfire as she stepped, grass formed. Walking into the open, she looked at the large wolf, tears now forming in her eyes. Then she looked like a fire elf. Except, she felt she was stronger with rage. Vines rose up behind her, and she said nothing.

Pain was seen in every inch of her eyes as she said nothing, standing tall and her walk was proud and strong. Not bothering to wipe her tears, all she did was hold out her hands close together, as if to be cuffed, or arrested. Her hands resulted on her hips as she stood there, up straight and strong. Her hair reflected the light from the sky, and it bounced off her curls. Before asking, she looked at their swords, both were bloodied, but with what blood. Pointing a shaky finger, she growled in her gentle, saddened voice "Who.. Did.. That?" She asked shakily, gently putting her hand over her mouth as she looked at the dire wolf, putting her hand on the top of her sword. Nothing would stop her from killing whoever did, until Faelyn grabbed her at least. She examined both facial expressions, Raoden must have. Her step inched closer as she went down on her knees to the wolf's back, playing with his thick fur. Still clasping her hand over her mouth, she seemed to shoot poisonous glares at them both "I will be, much angrier, if he does indeed end up on a wall." She snapped, and didn't look at any of them anymore, just at Drago, as more tears gently fell from her eyes.
