I'm not sure if he's just taking strange naps or I should be worried. Thanks for any help.

I'm assuming you mean he's lethargic? How old is he? Sometimes the tank changes can make fish lethargic. Did he stop swimmimg about after or before your tank change? I must say, he's a gorgeous fish!

Haha yeah~ I've had him for a year. He normally gets stressed during water changes but is fine after. I noticed this behavior before I cleaned his tank. Then he continued to do it after.

When did you set it up? That's what how long has it been running means.
What temperature is the water? Do you have a heater? Filter?
We need to know the ammonia, nitrates, and nitrites. That's how you know if your tank is cycled. So if you cycled it you should know. c:

One year. The temp is 78 .
Nitrate is 0
Nitrite is 0

Anyone have advice for treating velvet? My baby girl has some velvety patches coming up on her head and tail, so I'm going out to petco and getting a quarantine tank and some stress coat and such for her. She seems fine, but I know how quickly velvet can go from good to bad, so I'm just moving her away from the busy tank for good measure.

Also, I may find myself buying a male betta for my unused 3 gallon, because I hate seeing them in those little cups and I have no self control. XD

Krisym wrote:I really like fish, but their care seems so intensive and specific that I'm afraid I'm going to accidently kill them. Right now I'm sticking with reptiles, but in the future I'm considering getting something semi-aquatic to start off with before trying to successfully keep fish.

Keeping fish is usually just a luck of the draw thing. I've had rather delicate fish like bettas live three years, while hardy fish like goldfish go in less than a month. My advice is to find a good petstore with good workers and healthy fish. I take pride in knowing that I saved at least one fish from a five-year-old's tiny .5 gallon betta cube or a tiny vase in an office. While you may only have them for a little time, at least they pass in a safe environment and were well cared for (if only for a few days).

I've dealt with velvet on one of my bettas and this is my advice: Bump the temperature up to 84-86 F, dose with aquarium salt, and keep her tank clean. Don't bother with any of the commercial medicines.

I broke down and bought what is probably the most beautiful betta I've ever seen. He's fins are marked like blue jays' wings and he has blue marbling. He's a butterfly betta.

Try to guess how much we just spent on Christmas presents for the pets. Go ahead, guess.

If you guessed $300, you are correct. If you remembered I'm getting $600 worth of rat cages, then $900 in all xD

I also got a new Betta today! A light orange Dalmatian who was sold as a HM, but looks more like a delta to me. His name is Frasier <3
"I try twice as hard and I'm half as liked, but here they come again to jack my style."
In real life I have 4 dogs, 3 cats, 2 rabbits, 26 rats, 2 gerbils, 2 cockroaches, 1 turtle, 1 axolotl, and 8 fish.

Personally I find reptiles more complicated to take care of. Though I admit I haven't done much research of them, since I'm not interested in getting one.
With fish, the challenge is usually setting up the tank correctly, cycling it(and understanding the water parameters) and then stocking it with fish that are compatible to live together in set conditions. The care itself is pretty simple rutine of feeding and water changes(and if you get live plants trimming and re-planting them when needed). ^^ With some species you might need to stick to only feeding them live or frozen foods and some are very picky about the water quality, but in general most of the fish commonly sold live with good basic care and diet mainly consisting of dry foods. Illnesses are nasty if they hit your fish and there's always a good chance of some fish not making it. How ever if the care and feeding are good, you only buy healthy looking fish, plus you do extra step of quarantining new fish before releasing them into to main tank, then in theory you have a good chance of having no issues with the tank.
Can we pretend that the airplanes in the night sky are like shooting stars?
I could really use a wish right now, wish right now, wish right now...

Just looked in my filter, so gross. Remember to keep with regular filter upkeep.
I redid one of my betta tanks, it looks alright, I think im gonna get one of those silly air bubble volcano's for it and make it my tacky tank. Petco is having a dollar per gallon sale and a buy 2 get 1 free sale on all fish, plant and coral soon so im gonna get some albino corys and maybe some neon tetras.
