"Look at that stupid hat!"
"Why do you wear that silly thing, Niel? It's ridiculous!"
"C'mon, you can't REALLY enjoy getting laughed at! Just take it off!"
"That thing is the ugliest thing I've ever seen. Why in the world do you still keep it?"
"Just throw the ratty thing away!"

Terminaè laughed and slung mean phrases at Niel as he walked past them, just trying to get to the place where he'd sleep that night. He held his head high, not responding to a single jab that they threw at him. Finally reaching his resting place, he turned around three times, curling into a ball. He held the hat in his front two claws, and looked at it with tears in his eyes. "I miss you, Papa," Niel murmured, staring at the red and yellow hat in his grasp. "I don't care who makes fun of me - I will always wear your hat with pride. I will never throw it out, as they all suggest. I will keep your memory alive...I promise."

Very Brief Short Story:
Soldier looked all around. Others all had new items, toys, accesories...but where was his? All his family had friends over, but where were his? He thought he could cry. Christmas morning, and he had nothing. He went outside. Not even snow awaited him. Nothing was going right.
Soldier then did it. He cried, whined, asked why. Why did he get nothing? But then, all of a sudden he saw something. It was shiny, not too far away. He ran over to it. Was it glitter? A coin? No...a hat? A hat! He looked at it, then placed it on his head.
Maybe things are looking up for me this year!
