Dear Waffles,
Everyone is going to the dance. The populars, the jocks, the nerds, the emos, the outcasts... EVERYONE! All of my friends are going, too. The only student who isn't going is Leah, since she will be at the Halloween dance at Elementals. So I guess that means I have to go. Ugh. My friends and I are planing to leave the dance at 7:40, then go trick or treating. I'm looking forward to that, but not the dance. What am I going to do during that hour and 40 minutes? Hide in the photo booth? Help serve pizza and fruit punch? There's no way I'm going to dance. Maybe I'll just "forget to buy a ticket" and stay home and watch SpaceWars until 7:40.

Today is October 31. School ended 3 hours ago. I am at home right now. At first, I was going to go with my "forgetting to buy a ticket" plan, but Hope surprised me and bought one for me. I have about 30 minutes to think of an excuse to not go.

•I have a cold
No, then I wouldn't be able to go trick or treating.

•I lost Snowy
No, then my friends would want to help me look for her.

• I feel like watching SpaceWars right now.
No! What kind of excuse is that?

• Its raining and I'm allergic to water
NO! It's not even raining! Plus, who's allergic to water? I'm getting really desperate for excuses now. Help!

Well... I guess I just have to go. Let me put on my costume.

Dear Waffle,
I'm went to the dance. It actually wasn't that bad. Here's what happened:
I walk to school with my ticket at 5:55 and meet my friends there. We talk about costumes and candy until 6:00. At 6:00, the doors open and the sea of students flood into the cafeteria. There are tables with snacks, tables to sit at, a huge dance floor, and a DJ table. There is a photo booth on the corner, and the line is already pretty long. My friends and I each grab a slice of pizza, a pawful of chips, a cup of punch, and a cookie.

Hope: Mist, isn't that scarf kind of itchy?
Mist: Yeah. Maybe a little.
(Mist scratches her neck as she says this)
Petal: You think that's itchy? I'm not sure what this jacket is made of, but it feels like hay! I should have been something else.
Me: Mine isn't itchy, but it's heavy. The dress has at least 10 layers of velvet, and this plastic scythe is heavy enough to be a real one. How's your costume, Hope? You don't seem to be having any problems with it.
Hope: Mine is fine, actually. Why? Are you jealous? ;)

This is a continuation of the previous waffle, so I won't write "Dear Waffle" again. Oops! Too late! I just did!

In the next hour, my friends and I ate, bobbed for apples, played sticky dart toss (dart toss, but the darts have a sticky thing instead of a pointed tip), got face paint, and went in the photo booth. The line seemed like it was a mile long, but we eventually got to the front.

We also talked. And talked. And talked some more. And then Ash came to join us, so we talked with her, too. And then we talked even more. You get the point. :)

DJ Beats was taking requests, so I requested "This is Halloween" from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. It is a family tradition to watch that movie on Halloween and Christmas.
After that song, DJ Beats says "I'm going to play a slow song now, so all you couples can come dance on the dance floor." As the slow music started playing, everyone fled the dance floor to make way for all the couples.

Hope: Hey Coal!
Me: What?
Hope: Are you going to go and slow dance with your boyfriend?
I'm blushing so much, you can probably see it through all my layers of fur and my face paint.
Coal has a boyfriend?!
I look behind me and see Leah in her Halloween costume.
Me: No. Of course not. Why would I have a boyfriend? I don't have a boyfriend. (I need to change the subject, and fast.) Leah, why aren't you say the Elementals Halloween dance?
(I'm still blushing. A lot.)
Leah: Oh. It got canceled. So... who's this "special someone" you mentioned, Hope?
Petal: His name is--
Me: [slaps paw over Petal's mouth] So, what do you guys think of the dance so far?
Mist: Photo Woof--
Me: [slaps other paw over Mist's mouth] I think the dance is great! It has... uh... nice decorations.
Hope: PHOTO WOOFPAWS!
Photo (who is in the photo booth. Lol.): JUST A SECCOND! [Comes out of the photo booth] Yes?
(My face is literally red right now.)
Me: sorry. She wasn't calling you. She was just said your name really loud since she was trying to tell everyone that I had a crush on--
(Dang it. Why did I have to say that. The words just fell out of my mouth.)
Mist [in a muffled voice, since my paw is still covering her mouth]: you!
(Photo and I are both blushing, now.)
Photo: Oh... [long awkward silence at our table] Um... Ok... I better gat back to my friends because we were going to go and... um... do some stuff. [silently backs away]

Me: Well... that was awkward. Now who wants more punch? I'll get it for you. [Fake smile to cover up my embarrassment]
Whole group of friends: HAHAHA! (They laugh for about a minute before I shuffle over to the restroom and hide in one of the stalls)
